Goals 2019: Week 30 in Review

plansandgoals2019weeklyreview

Here I go again on my owwwnnnnnn, goin’ down the only road I’ve ever kno-own! Like a drifter I was boooorn to walk alo-o-one…

Lately it seems like I always have a song stuck in my head. One get replaced with another gets replaced with another. A few days ago it was the Indiana Jones theme, for no particular reason. I guess I could look at it in a good light and say that I’ve always got a song in my heart? Yeah, sure, let’s go with that!

You guys, it is so hard to believe that I’m talking about week 30. Where is 2019 going on me? This is pure insanity, I tell you! But the good thing is that I can say that the year has really turned around recently. Things are actually starting to go my way more-so than in the opposite direction, and though my current work situation is hardly¬†ideal, it’s working out and is all for the best, so that’s great.

So, a few things before I get into the goals…

I mentioned last week that I’d flown home for a visit, since there was a ten-day gap between the job I was doing and the job I was being moved to. During that week home I wouldn’t say that I was overly productive, but that was hardly the point. The point was that I got a surprise break to go home and hang out with my husband and daughter for a week before coming back out for the few-months stint I’m now currently on. And while I wouldn’t say we did anything that’s going to be seen as an amazing vacation, I really enjoyed my time home with my two great loves. We played lots of games, watched some movies, ate terrible/wonderful food, did a little bit of unnecessary shopping, and all in all enjoyed each others’ company quite a lot. It put me in a very good mood, I’ll just say that.

On the health side of things, I totally disregarded mine for that entire week home, and I stand by my decision to do so! For one thing, I was trying to get as much time in with my family as possible, so I wasn’t about to waste any of that time on bloody exercise. For another thing, it’s the summer, and it was hot, and I wanted yummy foods and ice cream. No excuse there, I just really wanted it. ūüėõ So I spent the week eating some real fat junk and doing as little as possible physically. As a result I am staunchly avoiding the scale until I’ve been back at P90 for at least a week.

And on a final random note, I am bloody loving this Chromebook and am so glad I got it. There are a few downsides (i.e. Scrivener does not have a version that works with the Chromebook OS), but the pluses outweigh them and I’m rather happy. In fact, even without Scrivener it’s an awesome little system for writing on. The keyboard and screen are a perfect size for me and it’s so small and light that it’s easy to pop around all over the place with it and it’s just great, let’s leave it at that before I end up writing a full-scale review of why every author should have one.

That’s enough of that nonsense! Let’s get into the goals!

Goal #1: Write half a million words.

Now, if you know me, you’ve probably already figured out that not a lot of writing got done while I was home trying to spend as much time as possible with my family. And you would be right. Not a lot of writing got done while I was home trying to spend as much time as possible with my family.

BUT.

A lot of writing DID get done on the plane while I was flying back out to work. One further word about my Chromebook: it’s the perfect size to be able to write comfortably while on a plane.

That established, while I didn’t hit my Pacemaker.press goal for the week, (just over 10k), I did come pretty decently close with 8421 words. And when you consider the fact that I wrote absolutely¬†nothing¬†on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, I’d say that’s pretty damn good, wouldn’t you?

  • Goal #1a:¬†Write at least a quarter million¬†fictional¬†words.¬†I went a little stronger on non-fictional words at the very beginning of the week, partially because I started a personal journal to get some thoughts out of my head, and partially because I was catching up on sharing some recent YouTube videos. But even with that little burst of blogging, the majority of my words for week 30 were still fictional ones, with a total of 5206. And yes, all of those were either on the plane, or in camp that night when I got here. BOOYAKASHA.

Goal #2: Read at least 50 books.

I took a little bit of a break from reading while I was home visiting my beauties, but don’t worry, I haven’t gotten behind on this goal. The Attack on Titan manga I read gave me a good jump ahead, so now I only have to read one book every two weeks to accomplish this one by the end of the year. And I highly doubt I’ll only read one every two weeks from here on out.

I did start reading Good Omens on the plane back out West, after my lovely friend River sent me an e-book copy, and so far I’m loving it. I absolutely adored the Amazon Prime show (I may be biased, since I’m madly in love with David Tennant, but I digress) so I thought I should definitely read the book, and here comes River with a copy for me! I’m about a third of the way through it now, and can I just say how adorable Crowley and Aziraphale are? I just love them half to death.

Once I get through this one I’m going to jump into Caraval, which my friend Amy suggested to me ages ago. I hope to finish it before my next set of days off, because if I get a chance to go into town I might be able to pick up the other books in the series, which would be perfect.

Goal #3: Build my social media communities…EVERYWHERE!

I definitely drifted away from social media during my days home, though not entirely. I did try to keep up with Twitter and Instagram, but I was also trying not to spend too much time on my phone as opposed to with my two sweethearts, so there was surely a bit of lull. I don’t think it affected me too much though, so let’s take a look at the numbers just to see…

Last week’s numbers are as follows:

  • The YouTube channel lost 3 subscribers
  • The YouTube Twitter account went up 3 followers
  • The YouTube Instagram account went up 5 follower
  • The Snapchat account‚Äôs score went up 15 points
  • The Author Twitter account gained stayed the same
  • The Author Instagram account went down 2 followers

All in all, a fairly steady week. Nothing went up or down a huge amount. The loss in YouTube subscribers is the one that’s annoying me the most this week. Even though it’s not a huge loss or anything, it’s frustrating because a lot of people seem to really be enjoying our Flea Market Finds Fridays videos, and yet subs have been going down. YouTube makes absolutely no sense to me sometimes.

Goal #4: Play more (proper) video games.

Still setting this one aside for the time being, though now that I’m back out West, and going to be on day-shift for a while, and possibly going to be on slightly reduced hours for a while, there’s a good chance I will, in fact, actually get a chance to curl up with some games sometime soon. Chances are it will probably be Borderlands 2 (assuming I can get past that issue I was having with the game freezing up), but I’ve also been itching a bit to play Katamari Touch. My daughter used her grading day money to pick up Katamari Reroll for the Switch, and I played a little bit of it with her while I was home, and now I’ve got that Katamari twitch in the back of my head. Those games are so bloody addictive! I need to roooollllll!

Goal #5: Put more time, focus, and energy into the YouTube channel.

Now, come on, people…if I gave myself a break on everything else in order to spend some important time with my family, what are the chances I went hard on the YouTube channel?

Well, actually…I actually did do a bit! Granted, it was easy work in the form of filming a My Geek Box and a Threads box with Jason and then doing a bit of editing on those, but also Jason got up our third Flea Markets Finds Fridays video, and also¬†also, I’ve been in talks with the awesome Quantum Mechanix about reviewing some of their new products, which is just all kinds of awesome. So yeah, in all honesty, it was actually a pretty great week for this goal!

So, you know what? All in all, week 30 was actually quite awesome. It was far from my most productive week ever, but the amount of stuff I got done was pretty great considering how much of the week I spent playing Uno and watching movies with my daughter. Therefore, I’m calling my week’s vacation an unmitigated success. Booyakasha, kids, that’s how you do it! XD

How was your week? Did you accomplish any goals? Make any new ones? Do anything else that made you feel awesome and accomplished? Feel free to share in the comments!

Flea markets are great places to go if you’re a collector.
