Plan & Goals 2020: Week 8 Review

weekinreview

It’s hard to believe that it’s nearly the end of February! The month really went by in a flash, not that I’m complaining…I don’t want to wish my life away or anything, but I’m definitely ready for bloody Spring. I’m sick of the cold, you guys. Gimmi some warm breezes already.
Week 8 was a weird one. I was really tired for a lot of it, for one thing. For another, I feel like I was super-busy, but at the same time it seems like I didn’t get all that much done. So I suppose I’m just going to have to take a look at the facts and see how they align.
Let’s do this thing.

Goal #1: Be Healthier

I was allllll over the place during week 8. One day I’d be highly motivated, the next I’d just want to curl up in a blanket and eat junk food all day. There are numerous factors, I’m certain, but the most basic one boils down to some truly epic laziness. There’s just no two ways around that one.

  • Eat better (and less) – I’ve been trying, I promise you that! I’ve also been having varying degrees of success though. Just as with my waxing and waning motivation, my desire to eat well has been strong one moment and non-existent the next. I’ve been trying to eat good food in general, and to not snack mindlessly, but week 8 was simply not a good one for this particular section of the ‘Be Healthier’ goals.
    .
  • Drink more water – Now, water? That I’m okay with. There was a day or two during week 8 when I kinda got distracted and forget to fill myself with H2O, but overall I’ve been doing perfectly fine with this one.
    .
  • Get more exercise – Phew! I exercised…twice last week? Yeah, I think that’s right. It actually got to the point that Jason scolded me. Which is good, because sometimes I need scolding in order to convince myself that I have to do something. That said, after a few weeks of trying to build myself up a bit and get used to the idea of exercising again, I officially started P90X yesterday. It worked well for me in the past (back when we were getting in shape for our wedding a decade ago), so I don’t see any reason it shouldn’t work well again. This time around I’m going for the ‘Lean’ schedule because I’m not looking to get buff or anything and I’m hoping ‘Lean’ might help more with overall weight-loss than the regular schedule.
    .
  • Lose 2 lbs per month – I’ve got nothing specific to report this week because I didn’t weigh myself this morning. I avoided the scale on purpose because we had a pretty fat weekend full of hockey game snacks and calorie-bomb vodka coolers, and I really didn’t need to see what the result of that turned out to be. Instead I’m running off the assumption that I’m roughly where I was before, and I’ll take a look at the numbers after a week of P90X to see if anything is changing. Sound good? Good.
    .

Goal #2: Be an Author

Man, you guys…it’s been building over the past six or seven months now, but I really have to say, I can’t believe how much I’m writing these days. I’ve gone literal WEEKS without writing a damn thing and then having to report zeros on my goal posts. Now I’m absolutely murdering it, and I can’t give enough credit to the Good Omens fandom. Yeah, I know I should be focusing more on my original stuff, but the GO fandom has just been SO amazing and lovely concerning my fanfics, and it give me all the warm-and-fuzzies. Knowing that people are reading and loving what you write…that’s the goddamn ticket right there. It keeps me going. It keeps me eating, sleeping, and breathing prose. So, thank you again, Ineffable Husbands shippers. Y’all are my people.

  • Write 500,000 words throughout the year – Week 8 was an easier week for whatever reason…Pacemaker.press chose to only request 4223 words from me for the week. I could have absolutely wiped the floor with that number, but I decided to take the break for what it was and go slow for a few days. You have to actually think about what you’re writing now and then, after all! Even so, I still killed that number with a week’s word count of 7036. Aside from my blog post from last Monday, all of those words were for ‘In Silence Our Secrets Lie‘, which has been getting so many lovely comments from readers recently that I’m absolutely drowning in affection!
    .
  • Promote published books – I’m not gonna lie: I don’t think I did a damn thing to promote my books last week. I’ve been so hyper-focused on these fanfics I’m writing… But, I mean…here’s hoping that a few of the awesome people who have been reading those fics will eventually branch out and try out a couple of my actual books, right? Hey, a girl can dream.
    .
  • Promote Patreon & exclusive content – The last thing I posted to Patreon was the most recent chapter of ‘Revenge Omens‘, which has since been posted to AO3 as well. I feel confident that I posted a decent amount of content to my Patreon in February, so I’m allowing myself to relax just a bit, but I definitely want to have something ready soon-ish, going into March.
    .
  • Work on Author social media – Instagram continues to be where it’s at for my Author social media, mainly because of the aforementioned amazing Good Omens fandom. Because of them I gained 16 new followers on Insta last week! Unfortunately the Twitter account didn’t even twitch, but at least it didn’t go down, am I right?
    .

Goal #3: Be a YouTuber

Getting back into YouTubing continues to be a trial, but it’s a trial that’s being worked on, believe me.

  • Film/edit/upload – There still hasn’t been any filming, but that’s entirely as a result of the basement still being an unholy wreck at the moment. That said, we’ve been working on it, and it’s getting more reasonable. As soon as we figure out a couple more shelves and get the lighting set up in a way that works with our new layout we should be good to get a few things rolling.
    .
  • Promote and Interact (Social Media) – New York Toy Fair is on right now, so I’ve actually been interacting a bit more than usual! Unfortunately the numbers do not reflect. lol The Twitter account actually lost two followers, while the Instagram account remained the same as last week. I don’t know what it is, you guys, but these numbers just barely ever change, and I’m not entirely sure what to do different!
    .
  • Expand website content – I just went to the website out of pure curiosity and saw that the last post I shared there was our Halloween vlog. Man. Sometimes I’m just a totally useless piece of trash. Just throwing that out there.
    .

Goal #4: Be Fun

  • Read 50 books throughout the year – Yes, I’ve been reading. No, I haven’t finished Nevernight yet. Yes, I feel absolutely shit about it because it is a fucking amazing book and deserves my undivided attention. No, I’m not going to stop reading GO fanfiction anytime soon. But yes, I plan to force myself to sit down and read Nevernight today. This nonsense is getting out of hand and I’ve got other books I want to get to as well.
    .
  • Play video games – I didn’t do a whole lot of gaming this past week, aside from some Just Dance 2020 with the little one (free exercise!). Mostly I either haven’t been in the mood or have been focused on other things, plain and simple, but I’m going to try to find some video-game-related relaxation time in the coming week because Borderlands 3 has been whispering sweet nothings to me from the game shelf.
    .
  • Watch shows/movies – Jason and I have officially run out of Family Guy episodes to watch, so we should really start getting back to the long list of things we’ve been meaning to watch, huh? We did watch Dredd  (the newer one with Karl Urban) this weekend with the little one. She thoroughly enjoyed it because she’s sick, like her parents. lol Other than that I don’t really have much to mention here.

So, looking back at everything I just wrote…it wasn’t exactly a terrible week, but not overly productive either. As with previous weeks my productivity seems to be focused almost solely on writing, which isn’t a bad thing, but it would definitely be nice if I could manage to spread my attentions a little more evenly so other things get done as well.

Also, it wouldn’t hurt if I could function on, like…five or so hours of sleep. Anyone have any tips for that one? 😛

How was your week? Any accomplishments you want to share? Goals you worked hard on? Feel free to share in the comments! ❤

Plan & Goals 2020: Week 7 Review

weekinreview
Wow, you guys, I can’t believe we’re into the third week of February! I must be getting old because time just seems to fly these days. Mind you, part of that feeling could be based on the fact that I know I’m going to be heading out to another job in Alberta sometime in March. I suppose the totally random point I’m trying to make is: enjoy yourself. Time slips away like the sneaky bitch she is and you never see her going.
Week 7 was a bit of a wonky one. As mentioned in last week’s post, I picked up some kind of bug that had me feeling like utter hell for a few days. Then Jason had a bad day as well. Then we had an insane temperature drop in the weather that had our house freezing for a few days. Then we had company, which resulted in the particularly dry feeling that is currently in my throat, along with the four dozen or so empty beer/cooler cans scattered all over my kitchen counter.
Now, I’m not saying that I’m hungover. But I am saying that I didn’t really get moving until around 11 am or so today. So, I guess, just keep that in mind if my post sounds a little sleepy and disjointed. I’ll do my best to remain intelligible. 😛

Goal #1: Be Healthier

Once the aforementioned sickness was more or less quelled, I started focusing more on this particular goal. I mentioned this already on my social media accounts, but after quite a bit of whining about how much weight I’d gained hubby made a suggestion. He said I should think of something I really want and use it as a reward to myself for losing however much weight it is I want to lose. I thought it was a great idea, and after conversing with a friend about it I decided on what my goal and reward shall be. I want to get down to 140 lbs (I started at 175), and when I manage to do so I intend to reward myself with my first tattoo. 🙂 I’ve been wanting one for a while, had a specific one in mind for about seven months or so now, and just have to decide where I want it on my body, which I’m sure I can figure out in the time it takes me to lose the weight. Wish me luck!

  • Eat better (and less) – Phew! Eating better is hard, you guys. (As if you didn’t know.) I must admit that I’m doing better with the “less” part than the “better” part. The weekend was a bit of a wash overall, because having company (and thus, having drinks) always results in over-indulgence. But hey, baby steps, right? I’m working on it!
    .
  • Drink more water – Aside from last night, during which my liquid consumption was rather a bit stronger than water, this goal continues to be going well. I’d say there’s probably still room for improvement, but I’ve been drinking a lot of coffee and tea since the weather has been cold and gross. Can you blame me? Tea in the winter is heaven.
    .
  • Get more exercise – I’m not even going to defend myself here. Aside from maybe one day (when we got up early to go shopping), there’s no reason I couldn’t have exercised every day last week. But, as you may have put together already, I did not. I think I got two actually exercises in, plus some playing of “Just Dance” with the kid. Hey, it’s something! I absolutely need to start doing better, but at least I’m getting myself moving every so often!
    .
  • Lose 2 lbs per month – After the…overindulgence of yesterday, I didn’t even bother setting foot on the scale this morning. I didn’t want to risk seeing the number gone back up. Don’t look at me that way! For the sake of reporting, the last time I checked my weight I was down a total of three pounds. I’m really excited to get myself down below 170 because I’ve been gagging at myself ever since I saw that I’d gone above it. Fingers crossed that that happens soon!
    .

Goal #2: Be an Author

I relaxed up on this one a bit last week because there were other things to focus on, but that’s definitely not to say that this set of goals didn’t go well!

  • Write 500,000 words throughout the year – For week 7 my Pacemaker.press account wanted me to write a total of 7260 words. I covered that easily with 2031 non-fiction words and 6092 fiction words, for a week’s total of 8123 words. The main pieces I worked on last week were “A Boy & A Girl“, a Patron-exclusive Valentine’s Day ficlet featuring Tori and Jacob from “The Other World“, as well as the third chapter of “Revenge Omens” which is currently on my Patreon in early-access, but will be posted on AO3 in a few more days. If you’d like to check out these pieces and be one of my favorite people, please consider checking out my Patreon. ^_^
    .
  • Promote published books – I honestly can’t recall if I did any self-promotion this past week. I did sell a couple of books, but that may have been complete coincidence.
    .
  • Promote Patreon & exclusive content – I already mentioned this above, but last week I made two posts to my Patreon. “A Boy & A Girl” is a Patron-only exclusive that can only be accessed by becoming a Patron, and “Revenge Omens: Chapter 3” is currently on early-access there before I post it to AO3. I’m currently in the process of working on the third chapter of “In Silence Our Secrets Lie“, and that will be an early-access release as well when it’s ready.
    .
  • Work on Author social media – I may have slipped off of the social media stuff a little in the past few days. The week as an overall wasn’t too bad though. I only gained a single follower each on the author Twitter and Instagram accounts, but I also got a good bit of interaction on both with some of my more recent posts, and that’s always awesome.
    .

Goal #3: Be a YouTuber

Good things come to those who wait, right? Well, our YouTube followers must be in the running for some damn good things. 😛
In all seriousness, there has been some progress happening; it’s just not necessarily the type of progress that people are probably hoping for.

  • Film/edit/upload – Filming has not yet recommenced, mainly because we currently have the basement in something of a shambles. We decided to rearrange our setup, based on a desire to be standing at our table in our vids instead of sitting – it seems like a small, almost pointless change, but believe me when I say that it will make a difference in several ways. Point being, that small decision resulted in a complete rearranging of the basement set-up, including a need to set up some new shelves, screw around with our lighting options, and acquire some small bits of new equipment to make certain things work properly. Long story short, we’re still working on all that stuff, and filming can’t resume until we’ve gotten a bit more of it done.
    .
  • Promote and Interact (Social Media) – Of course, the social media aspect continues on while we’re working on the physical stuff in the basement. Nothing groundbreaking has been going on, but I did gain 8 new followers on the Twitter account recently. The Instagram remains steady, being the most difficult pain-in-the-ass platform to move.
    .
  • Expand website content – Without putting too fine a point on it, this one is on the back-burner until a few of the more pressing matters (such as getting back into filming) are addressed.

Goal #4: Be Fun

I’ve been joking almost every week about how stupid this goal sounds, but this week I have to admit that I don’t really think I’ve been overly fun this past week. I’m a bit pinpoint focused at the moment; basically all I’ve been wanting to do is read and write. I’m trying to get myself used to something of a schedule though, so that I can spread my energies around. Not saying it’s going to work, but it can’t hurt, right? Right.

  • Read 50 books throughout the year – Yes, I’m still reading Nevernight. Yes, I know, I hate myself. That said, I recently spent a rather large chunk of time reading a novel-length Good Omens fanfic, and I refuse to apologize because it was a new kind of fantastic. “Show Show“, if you’re interested, is only related to Good Omens in the most tenuous ways (the characters are all humans involved in the filming of a television show), but it is the most fantastic slow-burn romance that is absolutely fraught with agonizing moments. I seriously wanted to bawl my eyes out so many times and very nearly made myself sick enough to throw up during one chapter in particular. It is absolutely fantastic and could easily be its own novel if the author wanted to change the names and whatnot to make it an original story. Unfortunately I can’t count it toward my Goodreads challenge total, but it was absolutely worth the read.
    .
  • Play video games – Games came in bits and pieces over the past week. I never really sat down and really played anything in a major sense, but I played a bit here and there with family. A bit of Just Dance with the kid, a Smash Bros game or two. I got roped into a bit of Mortal Kombat 11 yesterday, which is always “fun” because I suck at it so bad. 😛
    .
  • Watch shows/movies – Mostly we’ve been lazily throwing on Family Guy at bedtime recently, but we’ve started looking for new things to watch as well. The most recent movie was Doctor Sleep, which I thoroughly enjoyed and now want to read the book for. Good thing it happens to be one of the books I currently have in a pile waiting to be read (if I can ever drag myself away from GO fanfics)!

And that, as they say, is that! All things considered, not a terrible week, not a stupendous one. Just kinda…there. Hopefully next week I’ll have something more interesting to report, but in general I can say that I’m pretty much satisfied with how last week went.

How was your week? Any accomplishments you want to share? Goals you worked hard on? Feel free to share in the comments! ❤

Revenge Omens – Chapter 3: The Angel Slayer

Screenshot 2020-02-12 at 4.29.14 PM

Phew! I knew when I started writing this Good Omens AU that it was going to be a very angsty, painful kind of write. I wasn’t expecting that I would feel physical pain in my chest just while writing it!

Chapter 3 introduces the Angel Slayer and features a vengeful Crowley setting out to take this monster down, only to make a heartbreaking discovery. It hurts, you guys. It hurts so bad. ;-;

This chapter will go live on AO3 in on week, but if you want to read it immediately you can do so by becoming one of my lovely Patrons! ❤

“A Boy & A Girl” – A Patron-Only Exclusive Short Story from “The Other World”

Screenshot 2020-02-11 at 5.00.42 PM

In anticipation of Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d have a bit of fun with two of my favorite characters: Tori and Jacob from The Other World. Anyone who has read the first two books in the series will have come to the rather obvious conclusion that these two are a bit sweet on each other (even if they’re too dumb to realize it), so I wrote a cute little short story featuring them being adorable. It’s PG-rated, just so you know, and is non-canon as far as the main story goes, although you never know…something similar could happen in future instalments of the series! ‘A Boy & A Girl‘ is a Patron-only exclusive short, so if you’d like to read it please head on over to my Patreon and become one of my favorite people. ^_^ Enjoy!

Plan & Goals 2020: Week 6 Review

weekinreview

Let me start off this week’s post by imploring you, my lovely people, to avenge my death. It is surely soon to come, and shall be a drawn out, messy affair, so while you’re avenging, send a clean-up crew.

Okay, enough dramatics, but seriously…I feel like I’ve been hit by two or three consecutive trucks and then had my remains thrown into a wood-chipper. Hubby let me sleep until bloody noon today, and I still feel like I could easily fall asleep if I lay down and close my eyes. In fact, even after getting out of bed (at noon, remember) I pretty much just collapsed on the couch and watched hubby play Bioshock for over two hours. And the day didn’t get much more productive after that. It’s honestly quite amazing that I managed to drum up the motivation to write this post. So…go me? Yeah. I’m calling this a win.

So let’s go ahead and get through this while I have a tiny modicum of willpower to keep existing.

Goal #1: Be Healthier

It seems almost cruel and unusual that this should be the first goal I have to talk about today. I’m not joking about how rotten I feel, you guys. Seriously, if anyone has some, like…morphine or something just lying around, I could definitely use it.

  • Eat better (and less) – I’ve been waxing and waning on this front depending on the day. Obviously being sick affects my appetite and what I can stand eating, so that’s been buggering me up the past couple of days. But as a whole I’d say that this one has been going okay. The big trick is not snacking, which is something I’m flat-out addicted to, but I do think that I’m getting better. The key overall is to recognize when I’m genuinely hungry and when I just feel like eating. It can be a tough distinction sometimes.
    .
  • Drink more water – Foolishly, this one went downhill as soon as I started feeling sick. Stupid? Absolutely. The problem is an absolute lack of desire to pick myself up from wherever I’ve collapsed so I can go get water. Yes, I am truly that pathetic at the moment. That aside, the previous bits of the week went fine. Lots of water, tamped down by coffee, but lots of water none-the-less.
    .
  • Get more exercise – Now, this one here? This one has proved to be much more difficult than I was expecting. Long story short, I got exactly two workouts in last week, and the reason I only got two workouts in is that each of those workouts absolutely destroyed me. I’m not just talking tired or a bit sore. I’m talking muscles so strained that walking up and down the stairs became a fucking event. It’s entirely possible that some of my body’s reaction had to do with this bug creeping up on me slowly, over time, but either way the result is the same. I barely got any actual exercise in because my body said “No goddamn way”.
    .
  • Lose 2 lbs per month – Surprisingly enough, I can actually report a win on this front. Efforts haven’t been great, all things considered, but I hopped on the scale this morning and found that I’d lost approximately 2.5 lbs since the last time I checked. So, technically speaking, I’m roughly on par for this one at the moment.
    .

Goal #2: Be an Author

Writing continues to go quite well, though my brain is rather turned off at the moment (colds and flues tend to do that to me). I’m still pretty obsessed with writing fan-fiction at the moment, but there are also plenty of other things going on, some of them concerning upcoming books, some just fun little side projects. Whichever way you look at it, the plain facts are that I’ve been getting tons of writing in.

  • Write 500,000 words throughout the year – I’m really just so surprised with myself, to be perfectly honest. I’ve never written so much at the beginning of the year before. I don’t know what it is exactly about these first few months, but usually I bomb them horribly. Yet, this year I’m right on track, if not ahead of the game! My Pacemaker.press account wanted me to write 8430 words last week, and I demolished that goal with 12,226 words instead. :3
    .
  • Promote published books – Still looking for decent ideas for this one, if anyone has any. I’ve continued to toss hints out on Instagram and Twitter here and there, but haven’t really seen any reactions. I considered a paid ad on Kindle, but I did that once and saw literally NO reaction so it just seems like a waste of money. I know that nothing is ever guaranteed, but it would obviously be nice to have some kind of a king that I might see a bit of an ROI if I’m going to put any actual money into advertising.
    .
  • Promote Patreon & exclusive content – Oh hey! I actually have something to report here! I already mentioned it a couple of days ago, but there is currently an early-access copy of Is It Or Isn’t It? on my Patreon account. This is a Good Omens Valentine’s Day fic that will go live on AO3 on the big day. Approximately the first half of it is pure fluff, with the later half running into explicit territory, so be ware of that.
I’m also currently working on a special Valentine’s Day fic featuring Tori and Jacob from my The Other World series, which will be a Patron-Only exclusive, so keep an eye out for that and maybe consider becoming a Patron now if you want to get access to it immediately when it goes up. ^_~
    .
  • Work on Author social media – I’d say that, in a general sense, I’ve been doing alright on this one for the past week, though there’s nothing overwhelmingly interesting to report. Both accounts saw an increase in followers (4 new on Twitter, 15 new on Instagram) so that’s pretty awesome. Now if I could just continue that trend and turn some of those followers into book-buyers, that would be an accomplishment.
    .

Goal #3: Be a YouTuber

I won’t claim that the wheels have been turning at anything more than a glacial speed, but I can absolutely tell you that the wheels have been moving. You might not be able to see them, but there is motion, I swear.

To be straightforward about it, hubby and I have started working on the basement in a big way. Progress has been slow for several reasons (not the least of which is the fact that our pellet stove is broken and thus the basement is currently FREEZING), but we’ve managed to get a bit done and are also working on a new set-up for the videos. In particular we’re trying to work out a new configuration with our table/camera/other gear so that we’ll be standing instead of sitting during filming. It sounds like a tiny thing, but trust me, it will make a difference for a number of reasons, and it’s actually more difficult to set up than it sounds because of our old camera. But we’ll figure it out, and hopefully be back to filming in the nearish future (when we’re both decidedly not dying of a mysterious plague).

  • Film/edit/upload – I pretty much answered this one already with the above paragraph; there hasn’t been any filming. That said, I can report one new bit of exciting info, which is that we replaced hubby’s old, piece-of-crap laptop with a new one that has a solid state drive and will hopefully be much better for editing videos. Since the old one was getting so bad it was crashing multiple times every time he tried to export something, having a new, actually decent computer to work with should make a huge difference to the whole process.
    .
  • Promote and Interact (Social Media) – In the interim until we can actually get some new videos up and going, I have been trying to keep the social media flowing. In particular I’ve been trying to share more toy pics on the Instagram account and geeky stuff in general on the Twitter account. Everything is a bit steady at the moment (1 follower lost on YouTube, 2 gained on Twitter, 1 lost on Instagram), but that’s better than massive losses, so I’ll call it a win for now. I’m definitely hoping to see some actual increases on Twitter and Instagram in the coming week though because, I mean, obviously I am. 😛
    .
  • Expand website content – Let’s just go ahead and be straightforward with this one: I did nothing toward this goal last week. I haven’t even looked at it. I’ve been too distracted with other things. Sorry!

Goal #4: Be Fun

And here we are in the most amusing of my batches of goals. I can’t say that I’ve been much fun the past few days, given the whole ‘feeling like death’ thing, but grant me a bit of leeway, okay? I’ve been trying not to melt into a puddle of pain and germs.

  • Read 50 books throughout the year – Phewwwww, do I ever need to do some catching up on this goal! I’ve even got “Read Nevernight” as a ‘to-do’ in my day planner every day this week in hopes that I’ll convince myself to find the time to actually do it. The pathetic thing is that I definitely do want to finish it; I’ve just found that I either don’t have the time, or when I do have the time I’m not in the mood to read. It’s been rather pathetic. That said, I have a doctor’s appointment later this afternoon and fully expect to sit in the waiting room for an hour or more, so guess what I’m going to be doing while I’m there? Damn right. Let’s pick this shit up.
    .
  • Play video games – It hasn’t exactly been an extended gaming session, but I did, in fact, get into some games this past week. I mentioned last week that I’d started up Borderlands 3, and I played some more of that throughout the week (sooooo much fun!). I also played some Smash Bros and Mario Party with hubby and little miss. And I also also played a bit of Secret of Mana, as per the collection hubby got me for the Switch for Christmas. All was good fun. ^_^
    .
  • Watch shows/movies – We’ve been a little off on watching stuff lately, choosing instead to play games or pass out at night to old shows. That said, we watched a few new episodes of the ‘Harley Quinn’ animated series (tons of fun, that), got caught up in ‘Medical Police’ (so dumb, so wonderful), and I’m nearing the end of The Witcher as well. All good stuff! We were also talking about trying ‘Knives Out’ soon because we’ve been hearing lots of good things about it.

So, let’s take a look back…yup…yup…I think it was a pretty decent week overall. It could have been better, yes, but if nothing else the writing and the bit of weight loss make the week a win in my eyes. What do you think? ;3

How was your week? Any accomplishments you want to share? Goals you worked hard on? Feel free to share in the comments! ❤
