Plans & Goals 2021: Week 6

Happy Monday, and Happy Heritage Day, fellow Canadians! Or Family Day or whatever else you might call it, because apparently every province chose something different for reasons that I can not quite comprehend. Whatever day it is for you, though, I hope you’re having a great one.

If I seem significantly cheerier than I was last week, well, that’s because I am. Lots of things have been going wrong lately, but some things have been going write, and other things have been challenging but rewarding, and all in all, I’m just doing my best to keep myself together. Moving forward. Willpower and all that. It’s worth a shot, right? Right.

So, we’re now halfway through February. Yesterday was Valentine’s Day! I hope you were able to celebrate it with someone special, but even if you weren’t, I hope you ate something delicious and enjoyed your own delightful company. Myself, I baked chocolate cupcakes with pink frosting for Jason and Adrianna, and they gave me some sweet little gifts (that were actually Christmas gifts that didn’t ship in time, but screw it, I still got gifts…lol).

Halfway through February also means super-screwed-up weather for Nova Scotia, which hasn’t been the best of fun. We’ve got snow one day, rain the next, hurricane-level winds after that, and occasionally bright, sunshine-y days that make you feel like Spring is on the horizon. Then more snow. It’s an incredibly frustrating time of year, honestly, but our new car has ridiculously high-powered seat warmers, and I’m quickly becoming addicted to them.

Anyway, I’m just off on weird rambles and tangents now, so let’s go ahead and move on to the usual stuff.

Health

For the second week in a row, I have to tell you that I’m not going to lie to you: the week was one heck of a bust all around. I have excuses, but most of them are complete bullshit, so let’s just get this out of the way.

Aside from two days in a row of shovelling, I did no exercise at all last week. I can blame some of my laziness on the fact that those two days of shovelling made me feel like my I’d shattered a hip, but once that was feeling better it was just pure laziness. I just plainly and simply didn’t want to do anything and couldn’t convince myself otherwise. It happens sometimes, especially in winter.

Food is another story all together. I’ll give myself a little bit of credit in that I wasn’t exactly pigging out and eating everything in sight. But I wasn’t exactly restraining myself either. In particular, I did some unnecessary snacking during movie and hockey game time, and subsequently felt bad about it, only to do it again the next night.

The good news is that I got annoyed enough with myself to decide to kick things back into gear this week. Concerning exercise, I’ve gone and got myself the “PiYo” program for something new to try, because the fact of the matter is that I’m getting board with the P90 programs. I did the first video this morning, and I don’t know if it’s going to be for me or not, but it’s worth a try, and if I don’t like it I’ll just try another program until I find one that suits me. Concerning food, well…all I’m going to say on the matter right now is that I have a metric ass-ton of homemade vegetable soup in the fridge right now, sooooo… Yup.

Creativity

The creative world continues to be the one that I’m most comfortable in right at this point in my life. I mentioned last week that I’d opened art commissions on my Ko-Fi account, and soon after I got my first request. Very exciting stuff, since I’d never done paid commissions before! The request was for a scene from a human AU story in which Aziraphale walks in on Crowley snuggling and sniffing a sweater of his that had mysteriously gone missing. I’m really happy with the way it turned out, and the lovely lady who commissioned it seems to be as well. ^_^

So soft and snuggly!

Writing, of course, has been going decently as well. I was a bit distracted in the days coming up to Valentine’s with an idea for a two-part mini-fic for my favorite celestial boys, but I also got a reasonable bit of Book Three written as well, which I’m obviously happy about. I’m still entrenched in some of the most annoying, hard-to-write parts of the book, but it’s getting there, bit by bit. Before you know it my beta-readers will be checking it out (at least I hope so, as I’m pretty sure a couple of them are plotting my imminent murder otherwise).

All in all I ended up writing 9177 words for the week, which is a good bit beyond the 8440 that Pacemaker.press wanted me to write. Yay me! Unfortunately I didn’t end up finishing Part 2 of that mini-fic for Valentine’s Day, but people seemed happy with Part 1, so I’ll try to go ahead and finish the second part up today. A creator’s work is never done!

Productivity

First things first, I just want to say that if I had disposable income, I would be seriously considering hiring someone to deal with all of my social media for me. *epic eye roll* I feel like I’ve been getting better at some things, but worse at others, and the numbers don’t really reflect either possibility. Concerning this past week, the YouTube Twitter gained a follower, while the Author account lost one, and the YouTube Instagram lost four followers, while the Author account gained one. So…yeah. I don’t bloody know. It’s all a genuine mystery to me.

In more broad strokes, last week was a very lazy one (as you may have gathered from earlier), but I also, surprisingly, got a fair few number of things done. For one, there was the aforementioned commissioned art. For another, I got a few things up for sale on the local pages (while Jason worked on getting other stuff up on Ebay), and managed to sell an old slow cooker. Plus, I picked up some funds from the consignment place where we bring our old clothes and whatnot. And on top of that there were errands (groceries, mostly), cleaning, cooking, and so on. Most of what I’m listing is shit that every adult has to do, but trust me, if you understood how sluggish I get at this time of year, you’d be proud of me for managing this much.

Down-Time

In the down-time world, I can’t claim to have done too much, although I did have a couple of baths last week to relax and read and block out the rest of the world for a little while, so that was nice. I mentioned last week that I was reading “Darkdawn” now, and I still am because they’re long books and I read in snippets of time these days. It’s bloody fucking good though. I’m sure that if I was given the chance, I’d engulf it in a single sitting, not even pausing to eat. It’s that good.

Related note: when I went to Goodreads to mark off “Godsgrave”, I saw negative reviews for it and I balked. This is honestly cold, hard proof to me that you’ll never be able to please everyone, because that book is goddamn amazing. Period.

Anyway.

I still haven’t been playing any games lately, but I’m firmly entrenched in the spectator role at the moment. Jason finished up “Control” (which never did really make any more sense, but was awesome none-the-less), and I needled him into playing “Resident Evil VII” in preparation for the upcoming “Resident Evil VIII”. There were some good jump scares and some fun game play (as well as some infuriating game play, if Jason’s rage is anything to look at), and overall it seems to have been a good game. I must say, however, that the number of plot holes and foolish decisions is downright flabbergasting. For example, the game takes place in 2017, yet no one has a cellphone and you use cassette and VHS tapes throughout… Like…damn.

In the TV and movies category, Jason and I finished catching up on “Wandavision” and have continued working our way through “Community”, and we also had a family movie night on the weekend, on which we showed Adrianna “Poltergeist” (the original). That’s pretty much it because most of our “watching” time has been relegated to hockey games these days, but that’s okay. The Leafs have actually been doing well, so it’s been enjoyable to watch. 😛

So that just about covers that for another week. Nothing particularly big to report, but lots of little things, I suppose. Now, excuse me while I wander off to work on the second part of that Valentine’s fic, as well as the new commission request I got this morning. ^_^ Cheers!

Feel free to let me know how your year is going so far! Do you have any big goals? Specific plans? Anything awesome on the horizon? Share what’s going on with you! ❤
