Plans & Goals 2021: Week 25

Holy hell, you guys…it’s week 25. Do you realize what that means? It means that it’s almost halfway through the year. When did this happen? I really need to know! Time is running away from me! I’m growing ever closer to my inevitable demise!

Okay, perhaps that’s just a little bit dramatic. Forgive me. I’m in one of those dramatic kind of moods. XD

So last week it was officially summer, and this week it’s officially summer for the kids. Today was the last day of school, so it’s celebration time for the littlest Tobin. She’s free until September, and feeling pretty good about it, I’d wager. Good thing I’ve been working toward getting healthier, because I have a strong feeling that I’m going to be spending quite a bit of time outside in the coming weeks. Better pick up some sunscreen!

Anyway, I’ll be honest; I don’t have a whole lot to talk about in the pre-goal part of this week’s post, so I’m just going to dive right into it. :3

Health

ALRIGHT. First off, I am going to take this moment to give myself an incredibly well-deserved pat on the freakin’ back. Feel free to join me in my personal self-celebration. You see, my dear friends, as of the two exercises I completed this morning, I am exactly halfway through Morning Meltdown 100! Hu-freakin-zzah! I am incredibly proud of myself, you guys, especially since there were no catch-up days; I actually pulled off 25 straight days of doing two videos (equalling an hour) per day, without ever once screwing up and needing to attempt to jam extra exercises in somewhere!

On top of that, I feel confident in saying that I’m getting stronger, because I’ve recently begun using heavier weights for more and more of the exercises. It’s very motivating, let me tell you.

I’m not quite at the end of a full month, so I’m not looking too closely at numbers just yet, but I can tell you that I’ve lost approximately 6 lbs this month, and I know for sure that I’ve built some muscle, so chances are that my body measurements have changed. I’ll take a closer look on the first of July. ❀

Concerning food-related health aspects, I’ve been up and down but mostly I’ve managed to be pretty good. I’m still having my treats, and I’m still enjoying piggy food (we had nachos with our movie the other night, for example), but I’ve been pretty diligent about keeping track of my calories, and have been getting much better at saying ‘no’ when I know that I’m reaching for food out of anything other than actual hunger. I’ve also been drinking water like it’s going out of style, and have been making substitutions here and there in order to conserve calories. For example, today Jason wanted burgers for supper. I like burgers but have no overly strong feelings about them, so I cut a ton of calories by ripping up my meat and throwing it on a salad, rather than on a bun and with fries on the side. I’ve been doing things like that on the regular, freeing up calories to have little treats or to reduce my totals on days when I’ve gotten less cardio that day.

Bit by bit by bit, I hope that these little changes will add up, and that my body will start burning more fat in response to building more muscle. Fingers crossed! But for now, I know that I’ve been feeling a lot better, and sleeping like a bloody log, so if nothing else, there’s that!

Creativity

Okay, let’s get one thing out of the way right away…I did absolutely no art last week. I feel frustrated about it too. Granted I had other things I was busy with – it wasn’t as though I was sitting on my ass all week – but I’d intended to get back into some of the art and didn’t manage it at all. Therefore, coming into this new week, I am pledging that I will get some art under my belt, even if it’s just playing around with coloring some of my previously-existing line-art. I’ve got plenty of that to work with for the time being.

Moving into the writing side of things, I can tell you that it was a rather decent week, although not quite good enough to satisfy Pacemaker.press. My account was looking for me to write 13,340 words last week, and I closed out with 10,621 words. That’s quite a bit of a discrepancy, but 10.6k words is also pretty damn decent, thank you very much, so I’m not too mad at myself. My Pacemaker goal for this week is much more doable, so hopefully I’ll have a more successful report for next week.

The specific types of words I wrote leaned heavily to more of ‘The Prince’s Consort’…and yes, I know that I said I’d focus on ‘The Other World: Book Three’ since I’d already gotten ahead on ‘Consort’, buuuutttt….yeah. *cough cough*

I promise to write some ‘Other World’ this week! i bloody-well promise!

Down-Time

Okay, so first off, yes I’m still reading nothing but fan-fiction, but OMFG is some of it so goooooooood!

*cough cough* Seriously though, I’m going to start reading some of my actual books soon. I’m probably going to start with comics and manga because it’s quick and will serve to make me feel like I’m plowing through some stuff. Hey, nothing wrong with making myself feel good about my falsified progress, right? πŸ˜›

Gaming has actually increased a bit recently. I mentioned last week that I’d been playing ‘The Witness’, aka ‘the game that makes you feel like a genius one moment and a dumbass the next. I finished it last week…mostly. I finished the man story, but there’s still a challenge left to do. It’s in a secret room, and is a timed challenge requiring you to run around and solve several randomly-generated puzzles in a row. The puzzles aren’t overly difficult, but the time aspect is a real bitch. I’ve yet to pull it off and have taken a short break from trying, though the kid has indicated a desire to see me make an attempt, so I’ll probably be returning to it soon. Wish me luck and sanity.

In more relaxing gaming endeavours, I broke out the new ‘Pokemon Snap’, which was my Mother’s Day gift, but I didn’t get it until recently because of work, lockdowns, quarantine, and so forth. It’s a very simple game without a huge amount to accomplish, and is obviously not what you’d call challenging, but it’s incredibly fun and a super-relaxing play. It give me major nostalgia feels from when I played the original as a kid, and it’s easily a game that I’m going to play over and over again whenever I need a smile. πŸ™‚

In ‘watching’ news, we finished the available episodes of ‘Demon Slayer’ on Netflix, as well as the available episodes of ‘Close Enough’, and I’ve continued watching ‘Jo-Jo’s Bizarre Adventure’…almost up to the final ‘season’! Jason and I also watched an old 80’s horror sci-fi from Tobe Hooper that neither of us had ever seen, called ‘LifeForce’. It was wonderfully ridiculous; basically a ‘vampires came from space’ story that’s told in a dead-serious way. It may have been genuinely freaky back in the day, but watching it now with those old special effects…it’s pretty humorous. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I don’t think it’s going to become an October regular or anything.

So there you have it! Another week down, and we’re nearly 50% of the way through 2021! I must say, this year is going a lot better than the last. That said, I’m gonna go knock on some wood right now, just in case. πŸ˜›

Feel free to let me know how your year is going so far! Do you have any big goals? Specific plans? Anything awesome on the horizon? Share what’s going on with you! ❀

“The Prince’s Consort” – Chapter 10 [A Good Omens AU]

Well I did imply, last week, that things were going to be coming to a head soon…and I didn’t lie! Poor Anthony has been having both the best and worst time in his life, but with a little push from a more sensible mind, he gathers the courage to address the issue.Β

Unfortunately, the consort’s tendency to fail to take care of himself comes back to kick him in the ass.

Enjoy, my loves!

Plans & Goals 2021: Week 24

Happy Monday, my lovely people, and welcome to the official start of Summer 2021! Here’s hoping that it will turn out to be much more enjoyable than the Summer of 2020. It’s okay if it emulates the Summer of ’69, though. That was a good year. ;P

It was a mildly productive week, though also quite busy in a variety of ways. We had to go to a town over an hours drive away in order to get our snow tires off (yes, it really took that long…we were under quarantine!, but took it as an excuse to finally leave our immediate area for the first time in weeks. We also took the opportunity to pick up some games we’d all been wanting… ‘Little Nightmares 2’ for Adrianna, ‘Pokemon Snap’ for me, and ‘Resident Evil 8’ for Jason. An odd variety, I know. lol

That afternoon, after returning home, we had a friend’s kid’s birthday party to go to, and then that evening we had a bonfire in the backyard with those same friends and kids. After a few years in a row of not having a fire pit, we’re finally able to burn the ridiculous stacks of wood and roughage that have built up in our back yard. Yay!

Then, the following day, we made a last-minute decision to go for a drive ‘down home’ to see our families for the first time in ages, and to hand out Father’s Day presents, as well as ridiculously belated Mother’s Day presents. That led to staying the night at the inlaws for another bonfire, plus visiting my parents the following day, finishing off with a lazy night once we’d gotten home, because all that interaction is hilariously exhausting.

And now we’re here, at the beginning of a new week, which also happens to be the first day of Summer as well as the beginning of the last week of school for the kid. All good stuff, in my opinion! I hope you’re all having a decent Monday as well. ^_^

Health

I’m not going to lie, you guys; food as been a problem the past week. More specifically, the food that inevitably comes along with having a few drinks has been a problem. I am practically incapable of consuming alcohol without then consuming a ton of junky food as a result. I’ve managed not to go too overboard, but there is definitely no denying that I had a few days of destroying my calorie limits, especially the day we visited hubby’s grandmother. The woman is amazing, but she hears ‘trying to eat better’ and translates it to ‘I’m starving to death and need you to feed me ALL OF THE FOOD’.

That said, the exercise side of things is still going very well. I still have yet to miss an exercise. I even did yesterday’s two videos late in the evening after we got home from all our visiting. It was absolutely wretched, because I’m always just shy of dead at that point in the day anyway, but I still managed it, and then got up and did today’s exercises early! GO ME!

I am one week away from having a whole month of ‘Morning Meltdown 100’ – fast-tracked schedule – done, and I’m quite pleased with myself. It’s been a while since I managed to stick to an exercise program so well. I’ve also been weighing myself daily as a way of keeping myself accountable and knowing whether I’m accomplishing anything diet-wise. The big thing is going to be taking body measurements though. I plan to do that at the end of the month. I’m not expecting any major changes, but I’m definitely expecting to see something. At the very least, I know I’ve lost a bit of tummy, and it’s possible that my arms have slimmed out a bit as well. Fingers crossed!

On a health-related note, I’m pretty sure I completely destroyed a muscle or two in my upper arm/shoulder. We’ve been playing a lot of basketball at the park with the kid, and I am very not good at it. I’m confident that trying to make 3-pointers is what caused this weird, annoying ache that is making upper-body exercises extremely difficult. I’ve been slathering Icy Hot all over the area, so here’s hoping that it feels better soon. I’d really rather not completely blow what I’ve had going so far because of one frustrated spot.

Creativity

Let’s get art out of the way right away, because there’s not a whole lot to report. I’ve been wanting to get some drawing done all week, but it just kept not happening for various reasons. I did work on a commission though, so that’s something, at least.

Ta-da! I’m really pleased with how this ‘book dragon’ for my friend Marie has turned out so far! I’m going to try coloring him next, but I’m more than a little bit concerned about my ability to do so, so keep your fingers crossed for me, okay? Cheers.

On the writing side of things, I’m a bit annoyed to have to report that I didn’t come anywhere near accomplishing my Pacemaker.press goal this week. I have absolutely been writing – daily, in fact – but I’ve just been so slow lately for some reason. I spend as much time staring at the screen or drifting off with the Chromebook on my lap as I do actually writing. The result is that I only managed a total of 8483 words last week, while Pacemaker was looking for 11,076 words. But even worse is that my consecutive weeks of missing the goal means that said goal keeps going up. This week Pacemaker is asking me for the most words yet this year, and with the pace I’ve been going at I’m not overly confident that I can pull it off. That’s definitely not to say that I’m not going to try, though. I just might have to, you know…lose some sleep or something. πŸ˜›

Down-Time

Firstly, we may as well mention ‘reading’, which has remained firmly within the realm of fan-fiction all throughout last week. And again I say that I don’t feel the least bit bad about it, because the stories I’ve been following are fucking fantastic. I should get back into some proper books at some point, but I’m in no particular rush since there’s always a lot going on in summer anyway.

On the topic of games, I mainly have one to mention: The Witness. If you ever want to play a game that will make you feel like a genius one minute and a brain-dead numbskull the next, this is the one for you. If you’ve never played, it’s a very unusual puzzle game which never tells you anything. There is literally no dialogue or prompts of any kind, aside from occasional hidden audio recordings which are nothing more than philosophical ramblings that have little to nothing to do with the game itself. You’re on an island covered in abandoned structures, occasional stone statues that look very much like real people frozen in time, and shit-tons of odd puzzles. Some are simple…some seem simple until you try to do another and realize that the rules of the previous one no longer seem to apply. Many make your head want to explode. And, as previously mentioned, many will make you feel like the biggest dumb-ass in the world. It’s incredibly interesting and – dare I say – fun, but also causes more than a few headaches along the way, for sure.

Last but not least we have shows and movies, and honestly, not much has changed there since last week. I’m still working my way through ‘Jo-Jo’s Bizarre Adventure’, though more normally now since hubby finished his run-through. We’ve also been watching ‘Demon Slayer’ with the kid at dinner time, and it’s another rather fun and enjoyable anime. Aside from that we didn’t really watch much of anything last week. We intended to watch a movie multiple times, but it never happened because we had other stuff going on. Once school is officially over, though, I imagine we’ll be watching all kinds of stuff with the kid.

And there you have it; another week down, and another post done and dusted. Now, if you don’t mind, hubby’s grandmother sent us home with a whole bag of raisin tea biscuits, and they’re calling out my name as we speak. ❀

(Yeah, yeah, I’ll work them off later…)

Feel free to let me know how your year is going so far! Do you have any big goals? Specific plans? Anything awesome on the horizon? Share what’s going on with you! ❀

“The Prince’s Consort” – Chapter 09 [A Good Omens AU]

Miscommunication is a mainstay of this fandom and a significant portion of the fan fiction therein. This particular story is most definitely no different. ENJOY THE IDIOT PINING!

That said, don’t worry, some things are going to start coming to a head pretty soon. lol

Enjoy Chapter 9, my loves! ❀

Plans & Goals 2021: Week 23

Oh goodness gracious me, is it Monday again? Fancy that! Time is a construct, you see, and I don’t adhere to it. XD

Seriously though, welcome to a new week, my darlings! How did the previous one go for you? It was pretty decent for me, although I must admit that my mind, productivity, and everything in general honestly, was fairly eclectic. I got distracted several times, in a variety of both productive and unproductive ways. For instance, have you ever gone into a room in your house with the intentions of tidying it up a bit, and you end up absolutely dismantling the entire bloody room and doing a full-day clean, organize, and redesign? If you answered ‘no’ to that question, I both envy and pity you.

I stepped into the spare room (which is our guest room, but also my reading/writing room, and a place for all our retro gaming stuff) on Thursday with the intention of just clearing up a few things so that I could pull out the futon for cousin-in-law. Before I knew it I had almost every item out of the closet, cords and consoles strewn all over the room, and a ridiculous, unprecedented need to move all the furniture around immediately. In the end, I managed to put everything back together – which was a personal achievement if I’m being honest – and I rather like the way the room turned out. I still desperately need another book shelf, but I rearranged things in such a way that all the gaming stuff is on one wall, across from the futon, and everything is hooked up in such a way that no cords have to be moved, yanked out, or swapped whenever someone wants to play something. Plus the bookshelves are closer to the futon now, which just makes more sense to me. I still might swap two of the shelves with my writing desk for one final change, but I haven’t decided yet. I’m thinking probably, though, since it would mean that the computer chair isn’t two feet into the room, right in front of the door. πŸ˜›

ANYWAY.

So that’s one thing that happened to distract me. There was also having cousin-in-law visiting, which is obviously going to be a massive distraction of an enjoyable kind. Drinking and games were had, which is always a good time. But also, E3 was going on this weekend (and is actually still going on right now), so we enjoyed watching several of the showcases. I didn’t see a whole lot that is of massive anticipation for me personally, but I definitely saw a few things that interest me. I’m very curious about this ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ game that’s on the way from Square-Enix, and there are a few indies, remasters, and new originals that sparked some interest. Also, ‘Devolver Digital’s showcase was just fucking fantastic. I love it when companies actually have fun with their showcase, and DD seemed to have a blast making fun of some of the most hated trends in the industry. More of that, please and thanks.

But enough about all the stuff that kept me preoccupied the past few days. What about the goal stuff, huh? Well, let me just tell you…

Health

First off, I’m going to go ahead and give myself some major pats on the back for this weekend. Believe me, I deserve them! You see, despite having company in the house for the past three days, plus doing a fair bit of drinking and getting distracted by fun stuff, I didn’t miss a single workout! That’s especially awesome when you consider that I’m currently doing two workouts per day! Yes, my darlings, I hit every video, even on the morning that I was feeling the effects of drinking perhaps a tad too much the night before. I am ridiculously proud of myself for this, considering how easy it normally is for me to latch on to any excuse to skip a workout. So let me just go ahead and say, “Fuck yeah, go me!”

Diet is another story all together. lol

No, in all seriousness though, it wasn’t all that bad, considering the drinking, which inevitably comes with snacking. The first half of the week was great, focusing on healthier foods and counting calories to keep myself accountable. The second part of the week was much less focused, but I also managed to restrain myself concerning the snacking issue, and we still had healthy dinners…except for that one day we had waffles. *cough cough*

Long story short, I had a bit of a ‘bulk phase’ weekend, but I’m back to better habits now. I’m ignoring the scale for the moment, but I don’t expect that I sabotaged myself too badly, especially considering the aforementioned on-schedule workouts. πŸ˜€

Creativity

Now, I do have to admit that creativity-based stuff really took a back-seat this past week. Mostly it was just all the previously-mentioned distractions taking my mind away from creative stuff, but also I just had no desire what-so-ever to do any kind of art this past week. No drawing, no coloring, no work on stuff already in progress…just no art in general. I feel a bit bad about it now, to be honest, and I’m finding the desire starting to spark again, so hopefully I’ll actually have something to share here for next week’s post.

On the writing side of things, however, I didn’t do too poorly at all. I did not hit my Pacemaker.press goal, unfortunately, but considering what a busy week I had I’m not going to beat myself up over it. Pacemaker wanted me to grind out 10,684 words, and I flopped out with a final total of 8224 words. That’s still pretty damn decent, if I do say so myself. Plus I’ve been successfully transitioning back to writing on the Chromebook rather than doing so much of it by hand, so that’s really increasing my productivity, as I’m sure you can imagine.

As a side note, I’ve managed to get four chapters ahead on ‘The Prince’s Consort’, which is a whole month of updates to AO3 and Patreon, so I’m going to use that buffer zone to settle in and get some work done on ‘The Other World: Book Three’. I’ve been neglecting my original stuff for far too long.

Down-Time

I’m sure you realize that this was actually, probably, the busiest category for this past week. πŸ˜› For everything except reading, that is. I did do a bit of reading, but it wasn’t any actual book or anything…just a bit of chapter catch-up on a few WIP fanfics I subscribe to.

As far as games are concerned, though, there’s been a fair bit of that. For one thing, while cousin-in-law has been around we’ve played a handful of SNES games on the Classic, as well as several rounds of ‘Quiplash’, which the kid had been begging to play for a while. But we also went to the board games for some of our entertainment. We dug out ‘Balderdash’, which we hadn’t played in years, as well as ‘Rock, Paper, Wizard’, which is always a run and ridiculous event. We also tried out two games we hadn’t actually gotten around to playing yet. One was ‘Love Letter: Batman’, which is a very simple game that turned out to be a blast to play, and the other was ‘Horrified’, a co-op board game that challenges a group of people to defeat classic Universal Monsters. It seemed confusing as sin while we were trying to learn how to play it, but it turned out to be the kind of game that quickly makes sense when you actually start playing. In the end we managed to defeat Dracula and the Gillman, but it was a very close thing, and apparently that’s the easiest ‘mode’ of the game. Sooooo…lol…yeah, it was fun and we’ll likely try it again on a more difficult ‘mode’ to see how badly we get our asses kicked.

In the ‘watching’ category, we’ve mostly been focusing on E3, and watching silly meme YT videos in between the showcases. That said, hubby and I did watch a movie earlier in the week: ‘The Woman in the Window’. Our expectations weren’t high because the reviews were pretty harsh, and in the end I don’t have any strong feelings about it one way or the other. There were some interesting bits to it, and I rather liked the themes of depression and PTSD, but the overall movie was just a bit forgettable in my opinion.

So that was week 23; mildly productive, mostly distracting, but a decent bit of fun overall. I’m looking forward to a somewhat quieter week with a bit more efficiency on my part, but all in all I’m in a pretty pleasant place right now, so yay for that. ^_^
