Plans & Goals 2021: Week 29

I was so close to having a relatively relaxing week, you guys. Super close. We’d done some work in the back yard, gone for a few walks, did a bunch of Pokemon Go-ing with our friends, watched some stuff, and let ourselves become interested in the Tokyo Olympics. And then…disaster!

Okay, I mean, I shouldn’t really throw away the word ‘disaster’ in such a cavalier fashion, but a crappy thing happened. No two ways about that.

Long story short, we had our friends, with their two sons, at our place for a backyard fire, and during the visit all three kids ended up on the trampoline together…which, yeah, they shouldn’t have been. Hindsight. Anyway, one boy knocked my daughter sideways, causing her to fall into the other boy’s leg, and the next thing we knew she was in tears and cradling her right hand. There was no visible damage so I figured she’d just strained it or pulled a muscle or something, but the pain persisted for several minutes so I took her to outpatients and it turned out she has two metacarpal bone spiral fractures. :O

This is her first time having any kind of major injury, and she’s dealing with it like a champ, but the injury happened Friday night and we had to wait until TUESDAY morning for her to finally be seen by the specialist, so suffice it to say that we’ve all been a little out of sorts for the past few days. Yeah. Free health care is great but it does definitely have its downsides.

The upside is that the breaks weren’t bad enough to require a full cast, so she just has to remain strapped to a splint for three weeks. The annoying thing is that, like a cast, the splint set-up has to be kept dry. In the dead of summer. Yeah. Honestly, I think hubby is more frustrated about that part than she is, but I understand why.

So anyway, that’s the major news of the week…how’ve you been doing?

Yeah, okay, I’ll do the goal stuff too. πŸ˜›

Health

I am soooooooooo close to finishing the ‘Morning Meltdown 100’! As you can imagine, things got thrown a tad sideways as a result of my daughter’s injury, but not as much as you might think. Friday (the day of the injury) was actually my normal rest day and I ended up taking Saturday off as well because there were more important things that needed to be taken care of, like getting her back to the hospital for a Covid test before she was allowed into the IWK to see the specialist. I did, however, get back into it on Sunday, as well as Monday, skipped Tuesday because of all the driving and the appointment, and then back at it today, so I’ve now got only three days left of the program! I’m a bit annoyed that the final week got thrown all over the place, but the most important thing is that I did, in fact, do all the videos when I was able. That’s more than I can say for attempts at previous programs!

So yeah, I’ve managed to plow through, and this Saturday will be my final day of the program! I’m super-excited just to be able to say that I finished it, but also to officially take some measurements. I know that I haven’t really lost any weight in the past little while, but my clothes definitely feel like they’ve been fitting differently so something has changed, even if it’s mostly just muscle production.

On that topic, though, food is likely the main reason I haven’t lost any weight recently. *cough cough* I’ve mentioned before how hard it is to avoid calories in the summer, especially when there are get-togethers, booze, ice cream, and so on, and it’s still true. Plus, I made my daughter chocolate chip cookies because, well…you know…and of course that means I’ve ended up eating some as well. It’s impossible to resist! I have literally the most delicious chocolate chip cookie recipe in the world! LITERALLY. You cannot convince me otherwise!

*further coughing*

Anyway, I have been trying to eat more fruits and veggies, and restrain from overindulging, but there’s no denying that liquor, potato chips, and sweets have been a regular presence in my life so far this summer. Ahhhh, if only I could somehow convince myself that I have no taste for sugar or salt…

Creativity

Hey, guess what?! I actually have something to report when it comes to art this week! I didn’t get a huge amount of drawing done or anything, but I started picking at a new sketch idea to go with one of my fan-fics, and I also started coloring a previous piece I did for the ‘Good Omens’ Season 2 announcement. Both pieces are currently exclusively behind-the-scenes on my Patreon, but I can share these heavily-cropped bits that I recently put up on my Instagram:

This is a snip of the sexy piece I’m working on to go with ‘The Prince’s Consort’. Right now I just have the general outline and a little bit of cleaned line-art done, but I fully intend to work on it some more this week.

These are snippets of the colored version of my Season 2 celebration sketch. I’m still working on it (you’ll notice that there’s no shading and that the umbrella behind Crowley’s head is still white), but it’s coming along rather nicely, if I do say so myself!

On the writing side of things, I think I did alright, especially considering that most of the weekend was shot all to hell, but this is another week of not hitting my Pacemaker.press goal, unfortunately. Pacemaker wanted me to write a totally reasonable 11,494 words, but I only managed to pull off 7211 by the end of the week. All things taken into account, I think that was actually a pretty decent number of words. I’m not mad at myself, we’ll just say that. Plus Pacemaker gave me a significantly easier goal for this current week, so hopefully I’ll be able to pull that one off without any issue, despite the beginning of the week getting so messed up.

Down-Time

When it comes to the down-time of last week I have to be honest: most of it was overridden in my brain by the incident with my baby’s arm. So, there’s a good chance I’m forgetting half of what actually occurred. Forgive me, I’ll list what I can recall. πŸ˜›

Books: ha ha ha ha ha ha ha….I bet you can take a wild stab at what I’m going to say here! But, you guys, in my defence, I stumbled across some amazing fics last week, you have no idea… Such good writing. I sincerely hope that some of these people are writing entirely original works as well.

Games: mostly the gaming of last week can be attributed to board games. We had a couple of nights at our friends’ place playing a ridiculously fun/infuriating game called Crocanole (most certainly spelled wrong), which is a bit like curling in which you flick the ‘stones’ with your fingertips. We also played a marble game that’s kinda like an old-school version of ‘Trouble’, and a few card games like ‘Love Letter’ and ‘Five Crowns’, which are always favorites. When it comes to video games things were much slower, although I did play a little bit of the newly-released ‘Pokemon Unite’. I mainly played it to complete a few of my daughter’s objectives while her hand was a giant ball for those first few days, but it’s actually pretty fun. It’s a kind of team-based battle royale game with Pokemon instead of your standard style of fighters. A cute free-to-play game if you’re interested in checking it out.

Shows/Movies: mostly what we watched this past week was the Olympics in Tokyo. We’re bigger fans of the winter sports, but the summer ones can be interesting too, and there’s always a sense of desire to see your country do well that flourishes during the big games. This was also the first Olympics we’ve had where our kid was old enough to really care about sitting down and watching, and she ended up getting really into some of them. She cheered whenever we got a medal, and I think she was really impressed to see women competing in things like skateboarding and weightlifting. I can’t wait for the winter games now, because I just know she’ll get a huge kick out of the ski-jumping and aerials. XD

Aside from the games, we mostly just watched a few episodes of some of the shows we’d been into already, with the occasional super-dumb movie on Tubi. We’re becoming re-addicted to shite b-movies, and I’m not going to lie…it’s a bit fantastic. πŸ˜›

And that brings us up to today, a day of sleeping in, grumbling about the rain, indulging in coffee and cookies, and working hard to take pictures of and box up all the stuff that we’re trying to sell on E-bay. I wouldn’t say that I’m all sunshine and roses at the moment, but I’m okay, and that’s okay. Right? Right. That said, here’s hoping to a less eventful and more relaxing report next week. πŸ˜›

“The Prince’s Consort” – Chapter 14 [A Good Omens AU]

A bit of an intermission today, and a shorter chapter, but just a couple of things that I thought deserved a moment of focus before we return to our two ridiculously smitten darlings. ❀

Enjoy, my loves!Β

Plans & Goals 2021: Week 28

If I had a nickel for every time I mentioned how quickly the week seemed to speed by without me, I’d never have to worry about money again. Let’s add another coin to the pile.

In all seriousness, summers have always tended to be a strangely busy for us, despite there being no school, often no work, and just as often nothing pressing that needs to be done. Somehow, regardless of the fact that all three of us are basically ‘free’ for the season, it seems as though we’ve always got things going on that make the time pass in a flash.

This past weekend, for a silly example, was ‘Pokemon GO Fest’, the anniversary celebration that the Pokemon GO team puts on every year. In the past year we’ve been casual GO’ers, but it always ramps up a bit when the weather gets nice enough to feel comfortable walking around for extended periods of time. And this summer came with the unexpected surprise of new cohorts for the game. Our friend’s oldest kid got into the game and wanted to start joining us for our ‘hunts’; soon after, the friend saw how much fun we were all having and decided to give it a go himself. Now we have a group of five to go out hunting, and that made ‘GO Fest’ even more fun. We spent nearly the full two days out and about, catching all the different Pokemon that popped up during each special hour, plus doing a pile of raids to pick up some legendaries we didn’t have (and get our friends their first legendaries). It was a blast, and completely destroyed the weekend as far as noticing time passing.

Add to that regular walks for any reason we can come up with, since the whole family is now on Fitbit and we’re constantly competing with friends for the best step-counts. Plus we had a swimming-and-ice cream afternoon, plus we had a few evenings at our friends’ place to play board games, plus we had a couple of fires in the backyard, plus… Well, I’m sure you get the idea at this point. Just, suffice it to say, we’ve been making the most of the summer, even if that doesn’t necessarily equate to productivity in certain neglected aspects of our everyday lives. *cough cough*

So, just keep that in mind, is what I’m getting at. πŸ˜›

Health

You guys, I am so close to the end of ‘Morning Meltdown 100’ that I can taste it. I completed exercises 83 and 84 today, which were the third and fourth videos in the final phase on the program. They were not easy, let me tell you, but I can definitely feel a major difference in what my body is able to pull off these days. I’m quite pleased with the program, in general, but I’ll also be more pleased to complete it, both to be able to say that I did, and to be open to try something else. There are a metric ton of programs on Beachbody, so I’m sure that if I start looking now I’ll find something excellent by the time I finish MM100 next week.

Plus, you know, all that ‘Pokemon GO’ walking and trying to beat my friends in steps has definitely added to the fitness minutes count.

Food-related stuff continues to be more than a little…vexing. Mainly the issue is that it’s summer, and summer brings with it alcoholic beverage, and cold treats like ice cream, both of which are virtually impossible for me to turn down. When we went swimming the other day, for example, we stopped by an ice cream place our friends told us about, and by the time we left I’m pretty sure I’d eaten a day’s worth of calories in ‘S’mores G’lore’ in a waffle cone. It was bloody delicious, and I refuse to feel bad about eating it, but it definitely did my waistline no favors. All the exercise is definitely helping to counteract some of the calories, but I haven’t lost anything on the scale for a while, which is definitely starting to bother me a bit.

On another related note, I’ve been bloody exhausted the past few days. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a bit dehydrated from all the wandering around in hot weather, or if drinking less coffee lately is becoming an issue, but I’ve just been wicked tired and I’m not enjoying it. I might be getting older, but I’m still too young to be needing a nap in the middle of the afternoon even when I’ve gotten eight hours of sleep the night before.

Creativity

My dears, my dears…I am rather embarrassed to admit how unproductive the week was concerning creative ventures. First of all, there was absolutely nothing as far as art is concerned. That’s not for lack of desire or ideas…I’ve got a dozen things I want to draw, not to mention all the ‘draw this in your style’ challenges that have been showing up on Instagram, plus the fact that I’d like to start making fanart for some of my favorite fanfics. But I can just never seem to find the time to sit down with my phone and tablet. I might have to start carrying around a sketchbook to get some of my ideas started, at the very least.

Then there’s the writing side of things… Oh, my friends, my friends…I am honestly quite disgusted to admit that I didn’t get anywhere near the week’s Pacemaker.press goal, despite it being an entirely reasonable one. I was supposed to write 9609 words – which should have been easily doable – but by the end of the week I’d only managed a paltry 5953 words. To be honest, I could hardly believe it when I counted up my numbers this morning. It feels like I wrote much more than that, and yet… *sigh*

Most of the issue with my productivity is likely little more than the fact that I’ve been so busy with everything else that’s been going on, but a bit of writer’s block is certainly not helping. I’ve got numerous works in progress at the moment and have been hopping between them as I have ideas, but I’ve also been spending a lot of my writing time staring at screens or pages while my brain struggles to work out which words should come next. Maybe it’s a symptom of how tired I’ve been feeling.

Maybe I should start getting B12 shots again, instead of taking the tablets…just a random thought. Maybe it would help. *shrug*

Down-Time

You’ve likely gathered from the previous parts of this post that ‘down-time’ hasn’t exactly been in any shortage recently, but here are a few more details.

Reading continues to be something that taunts the back of my head. I haven’t set eyes on a single book or comic or anything of the like in weeks. I have still been reading updates to some of the fics that I’m subscribed to, but even those have been 10-15 minute stints whenever a new chapter pops up. As with other subjects mentioned earlier, I just haven’t been able to find the time required to sit down, by myself, in a quiet setting, and read a bloody book.

Watching things has been much easier, both because I can multitask with other things I want/need to do while watching something, and also because it’s more of a family affair. In particular, hubby and I have been watching a pile of old, ridiculous b-movies on Tubi recently. In fact, as I type this we are watching ‘Absurd’ and having a blast making fun of the dialog. It’s become a bit of a thing in recent days to throw on one of these movies whenever we’re exhausted from the day’s events, and it generally turns into watching two or three.

We’ve also been watching the fifth series of ‘Jo-Jo’s Bizarre Adventure’, which is by far the most…homoerotic of the series. That’s not a bad thing; I just find it hysterical. The number of male characters who have tit-windows in their shirts is fantastically hysterical.

When it comes to gaming, the trend lately has been more toward tabletop games than video games. I’ve still been playing ‘Pokemon Snap’, but that’s pretty much been it for video games. On the other hand, we’ve been hanging out with our friends to play ‘Love Letter’, ‘Five Crowns’, ‘Selfish’, ‘Blokus’, ‘Marbles’, and more. It’s quite nice, actually, since hubby and I have always rather enjoyed board and card games, but in the past haven’t really had anyone to play with. Nothing quite beats a board game with a few friends, a few drinks, and some snacks. It makes for a good night all around. πŸ™‚

So the short version of the whole story is that there’s been tons going on, all good, but hardly anything productive. I hope to be able to turn that around, somehow, but I’m not going to hold my breath given that it’s summer and there’s so much happening. Fingers crossed though!

Feel free to let me know how your year is going so far! Do you have any big goals? Specific plans? Anything awesome on the horizon? Share what’s going on with you! ❀

“The Prince’s Consort” – Chapter 13 [A Good Omens AU]

It feels as though it’s taken a terribly long time, but finally our boys are on the same page, in more ways than one. Things are starting to heat up, Anthony is learning some important things, and Aziraphale seems quite determined to be the sweetest man who ever lived.

What more can you ask for on a Monday morning? XD

Enjoy, my loves!

Plans & Goals 2021: Week 27

Happy, uh…er…Tuesday! Yeah, for some reason I don’t seem to be able to get these things out on Monday lately. Better late than never, right? πŸ˜€

A few things to talk about first…

Firstly, this past Sunday was my and the hubby’s anniversary! It’s been 12 years, and he continues to make me laugh like a lunatic all the time, even when I don’t want to. That’s surely the definition of love, right? I think so. ^_^

We spent our anniversary playing washer toss with hubby’s family, since we’d decided to visit for the niece’s birthday. It was a fun time full of drinks, food, my continued inability to play washer toss, and a couple of the family babies, who never fail to make me smile. We were all well-exhausted by the time we got home. πŸ™‚

Second thing: this past Thursday I got my second Covid vaccination, so now I am fully vaccinated. πŸ˜€ I got Pfizer for the second shot, and the injection itself went as easily as the first one. The following day, however…hoo-ee…it hit me this time! I didn’t feel sick, but I felt like someone had kicked the ever-living crap out of me. I was sore all over – the kind of sore that makes you cringe just to change position when you’re sitting down – and I was ridiculously tired. I’d slept a good 7-8 hours that night, but I couldn’t keep my eyes open for most of the day. I was trying to keep my mind occupied with writing, but I just kept drifting. Aside from a brief moment when I went out with hubby and kid to do a Pokemon Go raid, I didn’t leave the couch the entire day. Mostly I watched hubby playing a game, and fell asleep multiple times. That said, by the following morning I felt perfectly fine and haven’t had any issues since. So huzzah for that!

Third thing: hubby got his second Covid vaccine this morning, so I’m fully expecting to be dealing with a massive sook tomorrow. Wish me luck. πŸ˜›

Fourth thing: my current ‘Good Omens’ novel-length WIP fic just hit the fifth spot in my ‘Top 5 by Hits’ list on AO3. That might not sound all that impressive, since it’s only my works, but when you consider that my top fic recently passed 30,000 hits, things come a bit more into perspective. I am pleased. And I just wanted to share that fact.

Okay, I think I’m good now, so let’s get into the bulk bits.

Health

Okay, first off, I have a confession to make…this past Thursday I…*gasp;sob*…I skipped my ‘Morning Meltdown 100’ exercises! *dramatic sobs of abject agony*

No, seriously though, I fully expected that if I had any reaction to the second vaccine it was going to mean a missed exercise day. What I wasn’t expecting was that I was going to end up doing the birthday/washer toss/etc thing over the weekend, and not get home until rather late at night, thus accidentally missing another day of exercises.

But here’s the good news: I made it all up! Since I inadvertently had a rest day due to the vaccine, I did the exercises I missed then on what should have been my actual rest day. Then, after I missed a day because of the revelries, I made them up by doing two days in a row of three vids. Now I’m caught back up and have still yet to truly miss a single vid. Only roughly two weeks to go and I’ll have completed the program! How wicked is that?!

No, seriously though, I haven’t properly finished an exercise body since hubby and I did P90X in the lead-up to our wedding TWELVE YEARS AGO, so, yeah, I’m pretty pleased with myself.

The food side of things has been a little more difficult, especially with things like the aforementioned revelries throwing things a bit out in left field. But it hasn’t been bad-bad. Mostly it’s just been hard restricting calories while things like birthday cake are floating around. But I’m definitely betting better at not going crazy whenever there is alcohol around. So…forward momentum, I suppose.

I’m still not taking any measurements yet, aside from my morning step on the scale, so I don’t know how successful I’ve been overall. Weight loss has been at a bit of a standstill, but that may be because I’ve been building muscle, so we’ll have to wait and see what things look like once I take some actual measurements. That said, I have noticed some of my clothes fitting better, so that’s obviously a good sign.

Creativity

In the creativity column, I have absolutely nothing to report for art from last week. I did start an attempt at coloring the kiss-in-the-rain pic that I shared last week, but I didn’t get very far at all. I also intend to start making fanart for some of my favorite fics, and I’d like to do some DTIYS challenges as well, but I just haven’t been finding a lot of time to sit down with my tablet and draw. Plus I draw much more slowly than I write, so the process requires more of the time that I haven’t been finding.

So, okay, no art then. What about writing?

Oh, I did plenty of writing last week… The thing is, my Pacemaker.press wanted me to write a ridiculous number of words…just shy of 14k…and that definitely wasn’t happening. I mean, it probably could have, if I’d been capable of keeping my eyes open on the day the vaccine broke my body. But as it stands, I only ended up managing to pull off 10,118 words for the week.

That said…10k is nothing to bloody sneeze at! I’m definitely quite pleased with that number. I’m hoping to hit that again this week, since Pacemaker is taking it a little easier on me with a goal of 9609.

So what did I spend the week writing? Well, I hate to admit it…but I started working on more Good Omens fics. Yeah, don’t worry, I’m cringing while you sit there judging me. I just can’t help myself! I keep coming up with more and more ideas, and these characters are just so fun and easy to write!

Hey, it’s still writing, yes? *cough cough*

For your information, if you’re actually interested, the other fics that I’m now working on are a College AU in which Crowley is an artist who falls hard for literature major-Aziraphale, an Architect AU in which dig-director Aziraphale discovers an ancient ruin in which he awakens snake-God Crowley, and a series of short stories which will be based on, *ahem*…porn tropes.

No, seriously, I totally understand. Judge away.

Down-Time

I can’t believe that I’m saying this again this week, but I still haven’t managed to get around to reading anything that isn’t an update to one of the fics I’m currently subscribed too. On that note, though, a few of those fics have actually recently ended, so that time will be freed up anyway. Assuming that I don’t find more to subscribe to…*sheepish grin*

Games have been a little bouncy, but hardly non-existent. Mostly I’ve been playing ‘Pokemon Snap’, which continues to be big dumb fun, but I also played a little bit of ‘Little Nightmares 2’ and ‘Borderlands 3’ last week as well. I also helped hubby play ‘A Plague Tale’, which basically means that I kept an eye out for collectibles and helped him solve a few minor puzzles, but it’s something! FYI, if you’re planning to play that game, be forewarned that it is most certainly not a pleasant story. I don’t know how you could think it would be, considering the premise, but it doesn’t hurt to remind people.

The watching side has been slow. I finally finished watching the fourth ‘season’ of ‘Jo-Jo’s Bizarre Adventure’, and we’ve continued on with ‘Godzilla: Single Point’. Hubby has also been putting ‘Black Books’ on at night when we’re in bed, and while I’ve mostly been falling asleep to it, I thought it worth mentioning because that is an excellent show if you’ve never seen. Funny as sin. Other than those, though, I can’t think of much that we’ve really sat down and watched recently.

So I suppose that’s pretty much it! I felt like I had more to report this week, but I must have been imagining things! Or I wasn’t, and those things will just go unsaid. No major loss either way. πŸ˜›

Feel free to let me know how your year is going so far! Do you have any big goals? Specific plans? Anything awesome on the horizon? Share what’s going on with you! ❀
