Plans & Goals 2021: Week 23

Oh goodness gracious me, is it Monday again? Fancy that! Time is a construct, you see, and I don’t adhere to it. XD

Seriously though, welcome to a new week, my darlings! How did the previous one go for you? It was pretty decent for me, although I must admit that my mind, productivity, and everything in general honestly, was fairly eclectic. I got distracted several times, in a variety of both productive and unproductive ways. For instance, have you ever gone into a room in your house with the intentions of tidying it up a bit, and you end up absolutely dismantling the entire bloody room and doing a full-day clean, organize, and redesign? If you answered ‘no’ to that question, I both envy and pity you.

I stepped into the spare room (which is our guest room, but also my reading/writing room, and a place for all our retro gaming stuff) on Thursday with the intention of just clearing up a few things so that I could pull out the futon for cousin-in-law. Before I knew it I had almost every item out of the closet, cords and consoles strewn all over the room, and a ridiculous, unprecedented need to move all the furniture around immediately. In the end, I managed to put everything back together – which was a personal achievement if I’m being honest – and I rather like the way the room turned out. I still desperately need another book shelf, but I rearranged things in such a way that all the gaming stuff is on one wall, across from the futon, and everything is hooked up in such a way that no cords have to be moved, yanked out, or swapped whenever someone wants to play something. Plus the bookshelves are closer to the futon now, which just makes more sense to me. I still might swap two of the shelves with my writing desk for one final change, but I haven’t decided yet. I’m thinking probably, though, since it would mean that the computer chair isn’t two feet into the room, right in front of the door. 😛

ANYWAY.

So that’s one thing that happened to distract me. There was also having cousin-in-law visiting, which is obviously going to be a massive distraction of an enjoyable kind. Drinking and games were had, which is always a good time. But also, E3 was going on this weekend (and is actually still going on right now), so we enjoyed watching several of the showcases. I didn’t see a whole lot that is of massive anticipation for me personally, but I definitely saw a few things that interest me. I’m very curious about this ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ game that’s on the way from Square-Enix, and there are a few indies, remasters, and new originals that sparked some interest. Also, ‘Devolver Digital’s showcase was just fucking fantastic. I love it when companies actually have fun with their showcase, and DD seemed to have a blast making fun of some of the most hated trends in the industry. More of that, please and thanks.

But enough about all the stuff that kept me preoccupied the past few days. What about the goal stuff, huh? Well, let me just tell you…

Health

First off, I’m going to go ahead and give myself some major pats on the back for this weekend. Believe me, I deserve them! You see, despite having company in the house for the past three days, plus doing a fair bit of drinking and getting distracted by fun stuff, I didn’t miss a single workout! That’s especially awesome when you consider that I’m currently doing two workouts per day! Yes, my darlings, I hit every video, even on the morning that I was feeling the effects of drinking perhaps a tad too much the night before. I am ridiculously proud of myself for this, considering how easy it normally is for me to latch on to any excuse to skip a workout. So let me just go ahead and say, “Fuck yeah, go me!”

Diet is another story all together. lol

No, in all seriousness though, it wasn’t all that bad, considering the drinking, which inevitably comes with snacking. The first half of the week was great, focusing on healthier foods and counting calories to keep myself accountable. The second part of the week was much less focused, but I also managed to restrain myself concerning the snacking issue, and we still had healthy dinners…except for that one day we had waffles. *cough cough*

Long story short, I had a bit of a ‘bulk phase’ weekend, but I’m back to better habits now. I’m ignoring the scale for the moment, but I don’t expect that I sabotaged myself too badly, especially considering the aforementioned on-schedule workouts. 😀

Creativity

Now, I do have to admit that creativity-based stuff really took a back-seat this past week. Mostly it was just all the previously-mentioned distractions taking my mind away from creative stuff, but also I just had no desire what-so-ever to do any kind of art this past week. No drawing, no coloring, no work on stuff already in progress…just no art in general. I feel a bit bad about it now, to be honest, and I’m finding the desire starting to spark again, so hopefully I’ll actually have something to share here for next week’s post.

On the writing side of things, however, I didn’t do too poorly at all. I did not hit my Pacemaker.press goal, unfortunately, but considering what a busy week I had I’m not going to beat myself up over it. Pacemaker wanted me to grind out 10,684 words, and I flopped out with a final total of 8224 words. That’s still pretty damn decent, if I do say so myself. Plus I’ve been successfully transitioning back to writing on the Chromebook rather than doing so much of it by hand, so that’s really increasing my productivity, as I’m sure you can imagine.

As a side note, I’ve managed to get four chapters ahead on ‘The Prince’s Consort’, which is a whole month of updates to AO3 and Patreon, so I’m going to use that buffer zone to settle in and get some work done on ‘The Other World: Book Three’. I’ve been neglecting my original stuff for far too long.

Down-Time

I’m sure you realize that this was actually, probably, the busiest category for this past week. 😛 For everything except reading, that is. I did do a bit of reading, but it wasn’t any actual book or anything…just a bit of chapter catch-up on a few WIP fanfics I subscribe to.

As far as games are concerned, though, there’s been a fair bit of that. For one thing, while cousin-in-law has been around we’ve played a handful of SNES games on the Classic, as well as several rounds of ‘Quiplash’, which the kid had been begging to play for a while. But we also went to the board games for some of our entertainment. We dug out ‘Balderdash’, which we hadn’t played in years, as well as ‘Rock, Paper, Wizard’, which is always a run and ridiculous event. We also tried out two games we hadn’t actually gotten around to playing yet. One was ‘Love Letter: Batman’, which is a very simple game that turned out to be a blast to play, and the other was ‘Horrified’, a co-op board game that challenges a group of people to defeat classic Universal Monsters. It seemed confusing as sin while we were trying to learn how to play it, but it turned out to be the kind of game that quickly makes sense when you actually start playing. In the end we managed to defeat Dracula and the Gillman, but it was a very close thing, and apparently that’s the easiest ‘mode’ of the game. Sooooo…lol…yeah, it was fun and we’ll likely try it again on a more difficult ‘mode’ to see how badly we get our asses kicked.

In the ‘watching’ category, we’ve mostly been focusing on E3, and watching silly meme YT videos in between the showcases. That said, hubby and I did watch a movie earlier in the week: ‘The Woman in the Window’. Our expectations weren’t high because the reviews were pretty harsh, and in the end I don’t have any strong feelings about it one way or the other. There were some interesting bits to it, and I rather liked the themes of depression and PTSD, but the overall movie was just a bit forgettable in my opinion.

So that was week 23; mildly productive, mostly distracting, but a decent bit of fun overall. I’m looking forward to a somewhat quieter week with a bit more efficiency on my part, but all in all I’m in a pretty pleasant place right now, so yay for that. ^_^

Feel free to let me know how your year is going so far! Do you have any big goals? Specific plans? Anything awesome on the horizon? Share what’s going on with you! ❤

Plans & Goals 2021: Week 10

What even was last week? That is the question I ask you on this, the Ides of March. Because, quite honestly, I haven’t the foggiest.

Without going into any kind of full-on sook-fest mode, the past week just fell away from me in a number of ways. That’s not to say that I got nothing done, or that it was an overly bad week, but I’m having a hard time even thinking about it, as though my subconscious has decided that something about it requires blocking out. My brain simply doesn’t want to recall further back than roughly Thursday night. Perhaps I’m broken. Perhaps my approaching 37th birthday is the one that will signal the slow, and eventually complete, shutdown of all my mental faculties. Perhaps I just rather enjoy being stupidly dramatic for no particular reason.

Whichever way you want to look at it, this is probably not going to be an overly long post, simply because I can’t seem to remember enough of what happened last week in order to flesh it out. So let’s just…get it over with, I suppose.

Health

It was a week of ups and downs, for sure, even if I can’t quite remember precisely what those ups and downs were.

Speaking in terms of food, I can’t honestly say that I did a great – or even decent job of curbing my cravings over the past week. One problem was the social factor of having two nights out with friends, and also having my parents visit on the weekend. I always find it nigh on impossible not to eat junk food when in a social setting. I’ll either bake for guests (and then indulge along with them) or find myself nibbling on whatever snacks a host provides, and if there’s liquor involved it’s a guarantee that I’m going to pig out on something…likely multiple somethings. I did my best to offset in other ways, but I won’t claim that I didn’t basically fail in an incredibly hardcore way. Food continues to be my most ultimate weakness, and one that basically dissolves my willpower like acid.

Meanwhile, we have the exercise aspect. Here I can say that I did well, in a sense – I completed another week of Morning Meltdown 100 prep videos, bringing me to only one week away from starting the actual core program. On a related note, however, I do have to say that I’ve really been feeling those exercises, and not necessarily in a pleasant way. The cardio one in particular makes me feel like I’m going to pass out from being unable to breathe properly, which obviously makes me a bit concerned for the full cardio vid, which is about double the length. Basically, I just have a strong feeling that moving into the actual program is going to practically kill me. That said, even with the threat of asphyxiation, I’ve been enjoying the videos so far. Being able to work-out to the beat is really helpful, and I like the way each exercise changes, advances, and doesn’t last long enough for you to get sick of doing it. I get bored easily when it comes to repeating the same move over and over again, so I think I really hit the jackpot with this particular program.

One other thing to add, and it’s more of an inquiry than anything… Even when I’m doing poorly, I’ve been eating pretty well, exercising daily, and getting more sleep and drinking more water than I ever have before…and yet I always look (and regularly feel) exhausted. I’ve constantly got dark circles under my eyes, and if I’m forced to focus on anything for a significant period of time (think, trying to write a chapter, or sitting down and watching a movie) I end up drifting and feeling like my eyes are burning. Anyone have any thoughts?

Creativity

Last week I showed you the two little ineffable cuties that I drew for use as tier-images on my Patreon. Since then I’ve combined the two to create a third image for the highest tier, and I’m pretty enamoured with it, myself.

Aren’t they cuuuuuuute? ❤ I love little chibi things, even though I don’t really draw them that often. ^_^

That’s not the only thing that I accomplished creatively last week, however. I also finished up this sketch, which I’m quite happy with and seriously considering attempting to color (even though coloring is my major weakness).

It was a bit of a weird pose to deal with, but I think it came out pretty well in the end! If I do end up attempting to color it, I’ll be sharing updates on my Patreon, which I expect will be mostly a lot of profanity on my end as I try and fail to figure out how the hell to properly portray lighting and shadows. 😛

I’ve also recently begun a redraw of an older sketch that I’d previously done for a DTIYS challenge on Instagram. I was happy with the sketch, but I did it back before I got my drawing tablet and thought it would be interesting to re-do it in a digital format. Who knows, maybe I”ll even try to color that one too! If you want to see the eventual results of that one, however, you’ll have to head over to my Patreon, as it is a NSFW piece that will not get shared on this site.

Concerning the writing side of creativity…*cough cough* I mean, it’s not like I completely wasted the week or anything like that, but as far as my Pacemaker.press account is concerned, I did an incredibly poor job of keeping on track. Pacemaker wanted me to finish out the week with a total of 13,467 words. I came well shy of that with only 8039 words. I mean, to be fair, that’s still a pretty damn decent word count for the week, and that’s taking into consideration that I had company on the weekend, and spent a couple of nights otherwise occupied, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t still a bit disappointed in myself.

Adding to that disappointment is the fact that I didn’t write a single word toward The Other World: Book Three. And I’m not even going to make any excuses for that one. I’m just going to admit it and move on.

Productivity

Psh…I don’t even want to bother with this one this week. Let’s just quickly look at the social media numbers and move on.

The two YouTube accounts cancelled themselves out, effectively, with the Twitter losing one follower and the Instagram gaining one. The Author Twitter remained precisely where it was last week, and the Instagram is the big winner this week with a gain of seven followers. I’m not sure exactly what I did to warrant that, considering that I was pretty damn absent on all platforms last week, but I suppose I’ll take it.

Down-Time

First off, let me lift my hands into the air and state that I finally, finally, finished Darkdawn! It was absolutely excellent, and I was pretty well satisfied with the ending, and I definitely recommend the entire series, especially if you enjoy violence and smut.

I’ve moved on to a much shorter and easier-to-consume book that was loaned to me by a friend: The Book of Lost things by John Connoly. It’s interesting so far and definitely has a few things to express about mental and emotional issues. I don’t expect that it will take me long to breeze through this one.

In the world of video games, I did play some more Jedi: Fallen Order, but I haven’t quite finished it yet. I’m pretty much right at the end now, but the final (sorta) boss is kicking my bloody ass. Jason keeps telling me that I just have to learn her patterns and whatnot, and I’m over here thinking, “No shit. Very helpful” in a tone that is far too ignorant, but impossible to restrain.

I have established that once I manage to beat that bitch’s ass, I’m going to move back to Borderlands 3 and finish that one off. I think I was pretty close to end game there as well.

Concerning movies and shows, we haven’t watched a whole lot lately. We found Impractical Jokers on Netflix and started watching that during suppertime, and we finished the last few episodes of The History of Swearing, but I think that was pretty much it. We did show Adrianna both Back to the Future and Happy Gilmour, and she seemed to enjoy them both, so that was nice. 🙂

Okay, so it wasn’t as short a post as expected, but whatever. 😛 That was the tenth week of 2021, and now I’m off to try to beat the chill in the air by snuggling up under a blanket with The Book of Lost Things. To everyone else, enjoy the rest of your Monday!

Plans & Goals 2021: Week 9

UGH.

My friends, last week was…a thing. It wasn’t all bad, so don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a doom-post or anything, but Thursday through to the end of the week was an emotional rollercoaster, let me tell you.

Thursday in general was just an incredibly frustrating day that I wanted so badly to leave behind me. It began with an email letting me know that my AO3 account had been temporarily suspended. I’d previously been ordered to remove any mention of my Patreon from works on my account (I had thought that links were prohibited, but that simply mentioning it was okay), and I’d done so. Turns out, I missed one mention on one chapter of one of my more-than forty works. So, yeah, okay, it was technically my fault, but still extremely frustrating, because the suspension means that I can’t update anything for two weeks, and I hate disappointing my readers. So that was the beginning of my mood.

Later on, though, I got bad news concerning future work (or, more accurately, the lack thereof), then found out I’d lost several Patreons, and that was followed by a truly disgusting power bill that nearly made me puke. All of this on a day that I was already feeling off-kilter because of my recent attempts to change my diet. Therefore, long story short, I ended up having a bit of a breakdown and spent more time than I care to admit curled up in bed with my head under the blankets, quite frankly bawling my eyes out. Depression is a cruel mistress, my friends. Even when well-controlled with proper medication, the right number of triggers can send you into a hell of a spiral.

Luckily, I have the kind of husband who will snuggle with me and ask me what’s wrong, and when I can’t answer, will wet a face cloth and wash off my face while telling me that I’ve “made yourself all sticky and gross” to make me laugh. 🙂

So, yeah, I survived Thursday…but it put me in a funk that resulted in some truly spectacular fucking-over of my diet (more on that later). Then, Friday was comprised mainly of getting the house in order for company that was coming on Saturday, plus several hours playing games at a friend’s house – the latter of which was obviously great, but I mention it because those two things combined meant that I got nothing done on Friday. Then there was Saturday, with the aforementioned company, plus watching two of our niece’s hockey games, and a Chinese food buffet that so thoroughly knocked us all out that we all just blobbed in the living room watching movies while cuddled under couch blankets all night. Then Sunday…which was basically a repeat of Saturday.

Basically, the weekend was a good time; it’s just worth noting that I got absolutely nothing productive done during those three days.

So, with that established, let’s go ahead and look at all of the categories:

Health

So I believe we’ve already established that diet went very, very sideways in the later part of the week. I was actually doing really well in the beginning of the week too, so it’s that much more frustrating. All things told, my willpower was just destroyed by that one really rough day, and it didn’t rebuild itself over the weekend. I ate a lot of shitty food, and in large quantities. In the long run I don’t think the indulgences really set me back all that far, but the real problem is that once I indulge I find it very difficult to reign myself in again. Today, for example, I’ve pretty much eaten all my allotted calories for the day, and I’m not even hungry right now, but I just desperately want to be eating. This has always been the issue I have the hardest time with when it comes to diet. I have a massive sweet-tooth, and I constantly crave salty snacks as well, on top of the fact that I never seem to be properly satiated. I just always want more. Thus the strain to my willpower. If I could actually manage to get this particular issue under control, losing weight would be a cake-walk.

But, that’s basically impossible, so…

Ahem. Anyway, concerning exercise we can pretty much draw a parallel with the food issue. I did my “Morning Meltdown 100” prep videos for Monday through Thursday, and then lost the will to continue. Luckily Saturday was actually meant to be a rest day, so I really only screwed up on Friday and Sunday, and I made up for one of those days by doing two vids this morning. I’ll do another two tomorrow in order to get back on schedule, and everything will be peachy keen again. Right? Right.

Kinda related note: I recently found a program that’s all about meditation on Beachbody. I did the first 10-minute meditation this morning and it was rather lovely. The only problem is that, with the world the way it is right now, I feel like I need to repeat the meditation a hundred times a day to remain calm. @_@

Creativity

Creatively, things were a little bit slower this past week than I would have liked, but it was still half-decent overall. On the artistic side of things, I started a new fan-art piece that is a little more on the complex side, and is being shared on my Patreon in WIP stages. I didn’t get a lot of free time to do much more than that, but I did also make two little cutesy images to use as tier pics in the update of my Patreon page.

Say hello to my little snek-demon…
…and my little bookworm-angel!

Cute, yes? I’m pleased with them. ^_^

Looking at the writing side of things, I came quite shy of my Pacemaker.press goal for the week, mostly due to the aforementioned game night and company, because there’s obviously only so much writing you can get done while you have guests (or are the guest). Even so, I did still manage to get quite a bit of writing done throughout the week. Pacemaker wanted 12,301 words, and I managed 9819 by the end of the week. Many of those words were also toward the last few chapters of “The Scent of Desire”, so that’s exciting. It’s always a big deal when I finish a story, even if it’s ‘just’ fan-fiction. There’s a real sense of accomplishment. And fuck knows that I need some sense of accomplishment in my life right now.

Related note: The Other World – Book One is currently on sale on Amazon and Kindle for 99 cents USD. The sale will continue through the 13th, so if you’ve been interested, you should grab it now!

Productivity

You can probably make some pretty easy assumptions for this one, right?

All things considered, I think it was actually a fairly productive week. Until the weekend hit anyway….then it became entirely recreational in every sense of the world.

That said…I once again couldn’t tell you what I’d actually done. But believe me when I tell you that I did a lot of it! Like…a whole lot! *cough cough*

Seriously though, a glance at the social media numbers tells me that nothing major happened last week, but that the ‘nothing’ that ‘didn’t happen’ was on the positive side of things. The YouTube Twitter stayed right were it was, while the Instagram account gained two followers; the Author Twitter gained one follower, and the Instagram gained three. Piddly numbers, but at least they’re positive ones.

Related note: I’m more than a little bit peeved with Twitter at the moment. As I was writing this post, my author account got suspended for 12 hours. Why, you may ask? Well, for inciting violence, of course! And now you’re probably wondering what on Earth I would have said on Twitter to be accused of “inciting violence”, right? Well…I suggest that a racist piece of shit – who was unnamed, by the way – deserved to be hit by a bus.

All things considered, I suppose you could file that under “inciting violence”, but considering that the person in question was a completely unanimous being to whom I couldn’t have directed actual violence if I’d wanted to, and that person was an absolute garbage human being who suggested that black people shouldn’t be allowed to write books…I mean, come on. Context is a thing, Twitter. Look into it.

Down-Time

And finally we come to the down-time section, which is basically where I lived all throughout the weekend.

Gaming wasn’t a thing at all in this past week; I just never really found the time, or when I did have the time I wasn’t in the mood. Mostly I watched Jason playing ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’ whilst doing other stuff myself. That game is all kinds of gorgeous, by the way. I’m to understand that it’s way too bloody linear though.

I’m finally almost finished with ‘DarkDawn’! I can’t bloody believe it’s taken me so long to read this book, especially considering how excellent it is, but I guess it’s just a lot longer than it appears from the outside. It’s a TARDIS book. Yep. That’s it. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Anyway, point is, I’m almost done! It’s a bittersweet (almost) victory, but I’ll still be happy to have the series behind me so that I can finally get into reading something else. I’ve got books that two friends loaned to me months ago, so that’s probably a good place to start.

We finished up ‘WandaVision’ this weekend, and I was personally pretty happy with the overall show. I think, more than anything, I’m glad that it was a limited series show and not a movie. It worked a lot better as an episodic thing, in my opinion.

We also watched the first two ‘Rush Hour’ movies on the weekend…just because Jackie Chan is awesome. And we showed Adrianna ‘Back to the Future’, which she seemed to quite enjoy. Lastly, we checked out a strange little travel show hosted by Richard Ayoade, called ‘Travel Man’, and we got a few good chuckles out of it. It’s basically Ayoade and a different guest each episode, travelling to a tourist destination and trying to get as much as possible out of it in 48 hours. Almost every morsel of food eaten on the show is a horror story, so I got a good kick out of that.

So that’s another week down, and we are well on our way through March at this point. March Break approaches, the Covid vaccines are starting to roll in heavily, and social media has become even more of a cesspool than it has always been. That about covers it, right? Right… Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to go listen to nine or ten more of those meditation videos. I feel like I’m going to need them.

Feel free to let me know how your year is going so far! Do you have any big goals? Specific plans? Anything awesome on the horizon? Share what’s going on with you! ❤

Plans & Goals 2020: Week 43 Review

Happy Halloween-Week everyone! The spooking hour grows near!

I have a few things to talk about before we get into the goals this week, starting with the fact that the job I’ve been talking about the past two weeks…yeah, that’s over already. :\ After one 10-day shift the company decided to pull the plug. I’m not saying that I’m sitting here bawling my eyes out or anything, but it’s definitely a bit disappointing. Even though the work was back-breaking and mind-numbing I was hoping to at least get enough hours out of it for a new unemployment claim. No such luck, unfortunately. I suppose they decided that it was a job much better suited to a warmer season – which, to be honest, they should have realized right from the beginning.

Looking on the bright side, however, coming home ridiculously early means that I’m not going to miss Halloween now. It’s a small comfort in the face of losing significant income, but it’s a comfort none-the-less, considering that I’ve never yet missed a Halloween with my family. The only question now is what I’m going to dress up as. I’ll have to look through our random assorted stuff and see what actually fits. *cough cough*

In other news, we’re down to the last less-than-six days for the “Nowhere to Hide” 99 cent ebook sale, so grab it now while it’s still cheap! Give yourself the gift of a spooky read for Halloween! 😀

Annnnd, I’m positive that I had other things to talk about, but for the life of me they aren’t coming to my head right now, so I suppose I’ll just go ahead and move on!

Goal #1: Be Healthier

Well you can hardly say that I wasn’t physical for those ten days while I was working, buuutttt….

  • Eat better (and less) –  Aside from my first day back home (which consisted mainly of lounging around and gorging on snacks while watching horror movies), I was doing pretty well last week. I’ll admit to having stuffed myself a bit at dinner time each day, but after a ten-hour day of shovelling mud you can hardly blame me. Counting calories was all but impossible considering that I had no way of knowing the nutritional info on the camp food, but I do believe that, over all, I burned more calories than I ate throughout the week.
    .
  • Drink more water – Ohhhh, there was a lot of drinking, believe you me. Lots of water, lots of herbal tea, the occasional coffee, and lots more water. Even though the weather was cold and disgusting, doing all that shovelling burnt a lot of energy, so regular hydration was definitely required. And now that I’m back home again I’m back to regularly gulping down water and coffee, so all is well on this front.
    .
  • Get more exercise – Traditional exercise? No. But there was, of course, the aforementioned shovelling. I worked my ass off Monday through Thursday, then spent a bunch of time on Friday wandering around airports (I may or may not have been catching Pokemon…). Since being home I haven’t really done anything because I’m stuck doing government-mandated self-quarantine because of re-entering the province. Yes, I could have started doing exercise vids again, but at the moment every inch of our house is covered in the Halloween decorations that can’t go outside until the big day, so there isn’t really anywhere to do something like that. So, until Halloween is over, I’ll just have to do my best to wander around the house a lot. 😛
    .
  • Lose 2 lbs per month – I’ve only weighed myself once since coming home, and the number made me cringe. I’m trying not to think about it too much because I guarantee that I gained a ton of muscle while doing all that shovelling. So for the time being we’ll just say that, no, I didn’t lose any weight.
    .

Goal #2: Be an Author

I’m going to admit something: I’ve been getting wickedly discouraged lately concerning the whole author deal. I know that I’ll never give it up, because if nothing else, writing makes me happy. But the fruits of my labor have been pretty rotten lately. Or perhaps they’re just refusing to grow at all? Yeah, that sounds about right.

  • Write 500,000 words throughout the year – I did get a decent bit of writing done last week. It wasn’t as much as I was hoping for, because instead of having a few days off from work to relax and do nothing but write, I was actually travelling to get home. Even still, I managed to surpass my Pacemaker.press goal by about a thousand words. Pacemaker wanted me to write 8323 words, and I came out on top with 9363. Once more the majority of those were non-fiction words, but the fiction is starting to crawl back up and get closer to a 50/50 split, so I can deal with that. I expect the fiction to begin flowing a lot more in November anyway.
    .
  • Promote published books – Guys, I’ve been promoting the 99 cent sale, I really have! I’m just getting absolutely no reaction from it, and it’s incredibly frustrating. In fact, I don’t even really want to talk about this one. It’s just too much of a migraine for my poor skull right now.
    .
  • Promote Patreon & exclusive content –  The most recent chapter of “Revenge Omens” made it’s way onto the Patreon last week, and I already have the next chapter prepared for this week. Go me! I was intending to have a Halloween-related story prepared for the Patreon, but I just never got around to it with everything else I’ve had on my plate. At this point, if I even manage to get the thing written, it will likely go live on AO3 right away so that people can actually enjoy it for the season. That said, when “Revenge Omens” is finished (which will be soon!) I’ll be diving right into another story that I’ve been working with on and off for a while. Chapters will be released to my Patreons weekly, going live on AO3 the following week. Yes, I plan to have a proper release schedule for this one. 😛
    .
  • Work on Author social media – I was more than a little busy and distracted last week, but somehow or other I did, actually, manage to post to the social media every day. And hey! It was actually an all-positives week for a change! Finally, something to smile about! Concerning the author accounts specifically, I gained 2 new Twitter followers and 5 new Instagram followers. *waves* Hiya, newbies!
    .

Goal #3: Be a YouTuber

Obviously I didn’t get much done on the YouTube front this past week, but that’s not to say that nothing got done.

  • Film/edit/upload – Concerning videos, Jason managed to finish editing and uploaded the mail-call video that we filmed before I left. There were some awesome items from our buddies Kerry and Derek, so you should definitely check it out!
We also have a “Cryptkins Unleashed” video that should be going up in the near future; it’s just a bit delayed for numerous personal and unavoidable reasons. But it’s coming!
    .
  • Promote and Interact (Social Media) – The social media has been a joint effort lately, with Jason posting pics of stuff from our horror collection, and me posting images of the horror movies we’ve been watching, along with an invitation to check out my reviews on TraceysBasement.com. The resulting gains have…not been substantial. But at least they were positive ones last week. The Twitter account gained 1 follower, and the Instagram gained 2.
    .
  • Expand website content – For the third week in a row I’ve been posting to the website with mini-reviews of each of the horror movies we’ve been watching throughout October. I’m not entirely certain that anyone is reading them since none of them have received any comments, but I’ve been mostly enjoying writing them, so that’s good at least. Once the month ends I’m going to start up with some list articles and see if I can’t bully anyone into clicking on them out of curiosity. 😛
    .

Goal #4: Be Fun!

I’m sure you probably realize that it’s difficult to find the time to do anything fun while working ten hour days, writing movie reviews, sneaking in social media posts, and also trying to continue writing a significant amount of fiction. I have to say, though, that I think I’ve been doing a half-decent job.

  • Read 50 books throughout the year – I’m currently about 3/4 of the way through the “Hocus Pocus” sequel and expect to have it finished before Halloween. I’m enjoying it so far, although I do find that it has the feel of being written more for children. I mean, the movie is fairly kid-centric, so I shouldn’t be surprised, but it’s definitely a little more-so than I was expecting.
I also finished ‘reading’ (i.e. ‘listening’) to the “Invisible Man” audio book last week. All things told I expect I might have enjoyed it more if I’d read it the traditional way. I just don’t think that audio books are for me. I didn’t hate it or anything, but I found there were long chapters where it felt like nothing was happening. And while that may have been just as true while reading with my own eyes, I’m a rather fast reader so those moments would have passed a lot faster that way. A failed experiment, I would call it, and I don’t see myself reading any more audio books in the near future.
    .
  • Play video games – Nope! Just…nope!
    .
  • Watch shows/movies – Of course, here we have the plethora of horror movies that I’ve been enjoying for October. Even while working I still managed to cram in each of the movies that Jason and Adrianna were also watching at home, so I had a lovely week of screams and spooks. If you’re interested in what we’ve been watching, go check out TraceysBasement.com for the daily reviews! Maybe you’ll find something interesting that you’ve never seen before!

And that pretty much covers it for the third week of October 2020. I have to admit, I’m getting a bit antsy for this year to just be…done. Not that I expect 2021 to be any better, but you can’t argue that 2020 has just been a shit year all around and we surely all want it in our rear-view mirror. Just two more months, my friends, and maybe if we all cross our fingers and hope our very hardest 2021 won’t be the epic clusterfuck that this year has been. If you believe in any Gods, for the love of them, start praying. lol

Plans & Goals 2020: Week 37 Review

Happy Monday everyone! If you aren’t a Monday person, please excuse my enthusiasm, as I am attempting to be cheerier in general. Also, wish me luck. It’s not always an easy thing to accomplish. 😛

On this surprisingly lovely Monday morning I have a few things to mention. Firstly and foremost, the first week back to school for the little miss went fairly well. It’s definitely going to be a strange year, and there were quite a few kinks to work through on that first day when they had the kids lined up for half a mile while waiting to get in the school, but things seem to have gotten a little calmer since then. The biggest frustration, I expect, will be from kids who have trouble being still for too long, because the new rules have kids remaining in their classroom for all classes except gym, as well as lunch. My daughter doesn’t seem to be having any issue, as she’s not a fidgety kind of kid, but I can only imagine how some of the other kids are doing. Fingers crossed for no one to lose their minds.

On a related note, our local university starts back up today, and restrictions seem to be going well there, aside from four out-of-province students who failed to self-isolate when they arrived and subsequently got fined $1000 each. Congratulations, dumbasses. Whether you agree with self-isolation or not, the fact of the matter is that those are the rules in Nova Scotia, and you just cost yourself an entire course price-tag before classes even started. I hope whatever party you snuck out to was worth it.

In other randomness, sometime within the next few days I should be receiving my new phone in the mail. Jason and I were both eligible for an upgrade, and unlike several times in the past the current required contract plans were actually better than what we already had, so there was absolutely no reason not to go ahead and upgrade. We’re both getting a Samsung S20+, and I’m extremely giddy for a new toy. lol Our old phones were still decent ones, but being several generations old now they were starting to get very slow, die very fast, and overheat when running too many programs, so it will be exciting to have a shiny new phone that runs like a top for a while. I’m sure that’s neither here nor there to you guys, but I wanted to mention it because it makes me smile. 🙂

Okay, let’s get into the goal stuff, I suppose!

Goal #1: Be Healthier

Phew…I’m not going to lie; last week was basically a complete system shutdown as far as this goal goes.

  • Eat better (and less) – In a general kind of sense, I ate well throughout the week…but in a more narrowed down, specific-times-of-day sense… Yeah, okay, so we had a lot of snacks last week. A lot of sitting down and gorging on bad-for-you crap like popcorn and cookies and nachos and- Bah, you get the idea. The point is that I fell off the wagon something fierce when it comes to being careful about what I put in my body. But I am newly motivated to do better! Over the weekend we picked up a fridge that my parents were getting rid of (because they re-did their kitchen), and it’s nicer than our old one, and nice and clean and shiny, and somehow that gives me motivation to fill it full of good foods. Fingers crossed that the motivation lasts. lol
    .
  • Drink more water – Part of the reason that I think I went a little foolish with the snacks last week is that I’ve been slowly waning more and more on how much water I’m consuming in a day. I’m not sure exactly what happened – I guess I just stopped paying attention – but I would definitely say that my consumption last week was down considerably from where it has been in recent weeks. This is something else that I have newfound motivation to fix, especially considering that the new fridge has a (working) ice-maker, so I can have nice cold water all the time. ❤
    .
  • Get more exercise – Oh MAN, did exercise just…go by the way side last week. I believe I did some strength training last Monday, and that was pretty much it. We didn’t even do much in the way of walking around to play Pokemon Go, because we all had special research that required doing raids, so we mostly drove around searching for raids rather than walk half an hour toward a gym only to find that nothing was going on there. It’s a shitty excuse, I know, I’m just saying that’s what happened.

Long story short, I got wicked bloody lazy last week, and I’m (yes, I’m saying it again) NEWLY MOTIVATED to fix this nonsense. To be more specific, I decided to start doing ‘Zombies, Run!’ again. I’ll probably still sneak in strength training a few times a week because muscle burns fat, but in a general sense I want to do more cardio so I can burn calories, train my heart and lungs, and have fun all at once. ❤
    .
  • Lose 2 lbs per month – Surprisingly enough, considering all the junk-eating and not-exercising, I did not gain weight last week, thank fuck. That said, I didn’t lose either. This morning I was sitting at 172.8, which is basically right where I was last week. I’m definitely not going to complain though, obviously. I’m just bloody delighted that I didn’t gain anything.
    .

Goal #2: Be an Author

Productivity highs and lows concerning author stuff this week. The writing itself? Fan-fucking-tastic. Everything else? Eeeehhh….

  • Write 500,000 words throughout the year – I mentioned last week that my Pacemaker.press account had given me a very easy week to deal with, and deal with I certainly did. I was set to write 4979 words, and absolutely destroyed that with a total of 11,260 words for the week. Some of those words even worked toward ‘Book Three’, which my beta-readers have all been poking me relentlessly for. I’m working on it, you guys, I swear!
    .
  • Promote published books – Hey, I actually kinda did this last week! Just a little, but I managed to sell two of the physical copies that I have piled up and taking up room in my reading/writing room. So that’s nice. I definitely need to put more effort into this one though.
    .
  • Promote Patreon & exclusive content – Nothing went up on the Patreon last week, but that was mostly due to timing, since I put up ‘Revenge Omens’ chapters at roughly ten-day intervals, and the last one went up on a Sunday. That said, I’m currently working on Chapter 11 and it should be up in the next couple of days. Additionally, I’m soon going to start transcribing some of the other stories I’ve been picking at here and there, with the intention being that I’ll have multiple chapters typed up and scheduled so that there will be new posts every week for so many weeks in a row. At least, that’s the plan! Wish me luck accomplishing it!
    .
  • Work on Author social media – Whoooooo-boy. Okay, uh…no sense in mincing words: I basically just gave up on social media in general for a good five or so days in a row there. I’m not even entirely sure why I did so…I just kinda…walked away from the internet for the most part. *cough cough*

On a positive note though, I’m hoping that getting my new phone will help encourage me to spend some more time working on the social accounts. That said, as far as this week goes, the author Instagram gained one follower and the Twitter account remained the same.
    .

Goal #3: Be a YouTuber

No ‘highs and lows’ to speak of here; just good old fashioned ‘fuck all’.

  • Film/edit/upload – Yeah, we just…yeah… We kept telling ourselves (and each other) all week that filming was going to happen, and then it…didn’t. A few times it was because of actual other shit that needed doing, but many of those times it was good old fashioned epic failure.

In our defence though, if we had filmed last week the videos would almost definitely be difficult to watch because of constant cuts so that Jason could sneeze and short or so that I could wipe away the copious amount of sweat I was dealing with. I don’t know what was up with us last week, but the weather and/or flora and/or hormones had as all fucked up. Jason had several days in a row of sinus issues, and I couldn’t move two feet without sweating like I’d run a marathon.

So, uh. Yeah. Take that as an excuse if you want. lol
    .
  • Promote and Interact (Social Media) – As mentioned above, social media just went right down the toilet last week for whatever bloody reason. As a result the Twitter account lost two followers and the Instagram account stayed the same. I must admit, I’m getting really sick of looking at the numbers for those two accounts, because the graph of them would be like a sine wave. A little up, a little down, and back around again. I feel like if I look at the numbers from the beginning of the year I’ll see that I gained effectively nothing. And I won’t lie, that is outrageously frustrating. Let’s work on trying to fix that, hmm? Yeah. Okay.
    .
  • Expand website content – *hands over ears* La la la la la la la I can’t hear you la la la la la la la la-
    .

Goal #4: Be Fun!

I mean, I’m fun all the time, right? Right. Glad we’ve got that settled.

  • Read 50 books throughout the year – Aside from a few short fics that I picked up here and there, I can’t report having read any books this week. (I know, big shocker, right?) At the moment I am focused on the ARC that I mentioned previously so that I’ll be able to get my review up in the requested time-frame. Don’t worry, I’ve always been the type to work best on a rapidly-approaching deadline. lol

With that said, I’ve recently been working on scanning all my books (and manga and comics) into a tracker (because we keep ending up with multiple copies of things like ‘Goosebumps’ books whenever we go to secondhand sales) and looking through everything has been giving me a real desire to actually, you know…read things. *cough cough* So maybe I’ll actually get some progress going soon?
    .
  • Play video games – Funny enough, Jason just told me this morning that he’s not buying me any games for Christmas this year because I never play them. ^_^; So, yeah, that pretty much explains the situation, right?
    .
  • Watch shows/movies – Here’s an admission: Jason and I had never watched a single full episode of ‘Community’ until recently. But we’ve rectified that now! We recently started watching it as our dinner-time show, and are quite enjoying it so far. It’s one of those shows that we had always intended to watch, but just never got around to, so it’s nice to finally get around to it.
In other shows, we just watched the most recent episode of ‘The Boys’ and it continues to be fan-fucking tastic. If you haven’t checked out the show yet, I highly recommend it (just don’t watch with your kids nearby).

In movies, we haven’t been watching too much because Jason’s been spending the later parts of the evenings playing a new game, but we did just recently re-watch ‘The Babysitter’ so that we could also watch ‘The Babysitter 2: Killer Queen’. The sequel was fun, but they pushed a little bit too much of the really goofy stuff for my tastes. The first was more grounded in the realm of possibility, while the sequel had some really foolish scenes that tried to be fun but just pushed a bit too far past any semblance of reality. Still fun though.

And here we are, once again at the end. In the time it took me to write this post Jason’s phone showed up, mine didn’t, and I’ve been online with a support rep for fifteen minutes now trying to work out why my tracking info just says ‘no shipment found’. Wish me luck, my friends, because I was in a decent mood when this post began and now I’m clenching my teeth pretty damn hard.
