Plans & Goals 2020: Week 43 Review

Happy Halloween-Week everyone! The spooking hour grows near!

I have a few things to talk about before we get into the goals this week, starting with the fact that the job I’ve been talking about the past two weeks…yeah, that’s over already. :\ After one 10-day shift the company decided to pull the plug. I’m not saying that I’m sitting here bawling my eyes out or anything, but it’s definitely a bit disappointing. Even though the work was back-breaking and mind-numbing I was hoping to at least get enough hours out of it for a new unemployment claim. No such luck, unfortunately. I suppose they decided that it was a job much better suited to a warmer season – which, to be honest, they should have realized right from the beginning.

Looking on the bright side, however, coming home ridiculously early means that I’m not going to miss Halloween now. It’s a small comfort in the face of losing significant income, but it’s a comfort none-the-less, considering that I’ve never yet missed a Halloween with my family. The only question now is what I’m going to dress up as. I’ll have to look through our random assorted stuff and see what actually fits. *cough cough*

In other news, we’re down to the last less-than-six days for the “Nowhere to Hide” 99 cent ebook sale, so grab it now while it’s still cheap! Give yourself the gift of a spooky read for Halloween! 😀

Annnnd, I’m positive that I had other things to talk about, but for the life of me they aren’t coming to my head right now, so I suppose I’ll just go ahead and move on!

Goal #1: Be Healthier

Well you can hardly say that I wasn’t physical for those ten days while I was working, buuutttt….

  • Eat better (and less) –  Aside from my first day back home (which consisted mainly of lounging around and gorging on snacks while watching horror movies), I was doing pretty well last week. I’ll admit to having stuffed myself a bit at dinner time each day, but after a ten-hour day of shovelling mud you can hardly blame me. Counting calories was all but impossible considering that I had no way of knowing the nutritional info on the camp food, but I do believe that, over all, I burned more calories than I ate throughout the week.
    .
  • Drink more water – Ohhhh, there was a lot of drinking, believe you me. Lots of water, lots of herbal tea, the occasional coffee, and lots more water. Even though the weather was cold and disgusting, doing all that shovelling burnt a lot of energy, so regular hydration was definitely required. And now that I’m back home again I’m back to regularly gulping down water and coffee, so all is well on this front.
    .
  • Get more exercise – Traditional exercise? No. But there was, of course, the aforementioned shovelling. I worked my ass off Monday through Thursday, then spent a bunch of time on Friday wandering around airports (I may or may not have been catching Pokemon…). Since being home I haven’t really done anything because I’m stuck doing government-mandated self-quarantine because of re-entering the province. Yes, I could have started doing exercise vids again, but at the moment every inch of our house is covered in the Halloween decorations that can’t go outside until the big day, so there isn’t really anywhere to do something like that. So, until Halloween is over, I’ll just have to do my best to wander around the house a lot. 😛
    .
  • Lose 2 lbs per month – I’ve only weighed myself once since coming home, and the number made me cringe. I’m trying not to think about it too much because I guarantee that I gained a ton of muscle while doing all that shovelling. So for the time being we’ll just say that, no, I didn’t lose any weight.
    .

Goal #2: Be an Author

I’m going to admit something: I’ve been getting wickedly discouraged lately concerning the whole author deal. I know that I’ll never give it up, because if nothing else, writing makes me happy. But the fruits of my labor have been pretty rotten lately. Or perhaps they’re just refusing to grow at all? Yeah, that sounds about right.

  • Write 500,000 words throughout the year – I did get a decent bit of writing done last week. It wasn’t as much as I was hoping for, because instead of having a few days off from work to relax and do nothing but write, I was actually travelling to get home. Even still, I managed to surpass my Pacemaker.press goal by about a thousand words. Pacemaker wanted me to write 8323 words, and I came out on top with 9363. Once more the majority of those were non-fiction words, but the fiction is starting to crawl back up and get closer to a 50/50 split, so I can deal with that. I expect the fiction to begin flowing a lot more in November anyway.
    .
  • Promote published books – Guys, I’ve been promoting the 99 cent sale, I really have! I’m just getting absolutely no reaction from it, and it’s incredibly frustrating. In fact, I don’t even really want to talk about this one. It’s just too much of a migraine for my poor skull right now.
    .
  • Promote Patreon & exclusive content –  The most recent chapter of “Revenge Omens” made it’s way onto the Patreon last week, and I already have the next chapter prepared for this week. Go me! I was intending to have a Halloween-related story prepared for the Patreon, but I just never got around to it with everything else I’ve had on my plate. At this point, if I even manage to get the thing written, it will likely go live on AO3 right away so that people can actually enjoy it for the season. That said, when “Revenge Omens” is finished (which will be soon!) I’ll be diving right into another story that I’ve been working with on and off for a while. Chapters will be released to my Patreons weekly, going live on AO3 the following week. Yes, I plan to have a proper release schedule for this one. 😛
    .
  • Work on Author social media – I was more than a little busy and distracted last week, but somehow or other I did, actually, manage to post to the social media every day. And hey! It was actually an all-positives week for a change! Finally, something to smile about! Concerning the author accounts specifically, I gained 2 new Twitter followers and 5 new Instagram followers. *waves* Hiya, newbies!
    .

Goal #3: Be a YouTuber

Obviously I didn’t get much done on the YouTube front this past week, but that’s not to say that nothing got done.

  • Film/edit/upload – Concerning videos, Jason managed to finish editing and uploaded the mail-call video that we filmed before I left. There were some awesome items from our buddies Kerry and Derek, so you should definitely check it out!
We also have a “Cryptkins Unleashed” video that should be going up in the near future; it’s just a bit delayed for numerous personal and unavoidable reasons. But it’s coming!
    .
  • Promote and Interact (Social Media) – The social media has been a joint effort lately, with Jason posting pics of stuff from our horror collection, and me posting images of the horror movies we’ve been watching, along with an invitation to check out my reviews on TraceysBasement.com. The resulting gains have…not been substantial. But at least they were positive ones last week. The Twitter account gained 1 follower, and the Instagram gained 2.
    .
  • Expand website content – For the third week in a row I’ve been posting to the website with mini-reviews of each of the horror movies we’ve been watching throughout October. I’m not entirely certain that anyone is reading them since none of them have received any comments, but I’ve been mostly enjoying writing them, so that’s good at least. Once the month ends I’m going to start up with some list articles and see if I can’t bully anyone into clicking on them out of curiosity. 😛
    .

Goal #4: Be Fun!

I’m sure you probably realize that it’s difficult to find the time to do anything fun while working ten hour days, writing movie reviews, sneaking in social media posts, and also trying to continue writing a significant amount of fiction. I have to say, though, that I think I’ve been doing a half-decent job.

  • Read 50 books throughout the year – I’m currently about 3/4 of the way through the “Hocus Pocus” sequel and expect to have it finished before Halloween. I’m enjoying it so far, although I do find that it has the feel of being written more for children. I mean, the movie is fairly kid-centric, so I shouldn’t be surprised, but it’s definitely a little more-so than I was expecting.
I also finished ‘reading’ (i.e. ‘listening’) to the “Invisible Man” audio book last week. All things told I expect I might have enjoyed it more if I’d read it the traditional way. I just don’t think that audio books are for me. I didn’t hate it or anything, but I found there were long chapters where it felt like nothing was happening. And while that may have been just as true while reading with my own eyes, I’m a rather fast reader so those moments would have passed a lot faster that way. A failed experiment, I would call it, and I don’t see myself reading any more audio books in the near future.
    .
  • Play video games – Nope! Just…nope!
    .
  • Watch shows/movies – Of course, here we have the plethora of horror movies that I’ve been enjoying for October. Even while working I still managed to cram in each of the movies that Jason and Adrianna were also watching at home, so I had a lovely week of screams and spooks. If you’re interested in what we’ve been watching, go check out TraceysBasement.com for the daily reviews! Maybe you’ll find something interesting that you’ve never seen before!

And that pretty much covers it for the third week of October 2020. I have to admit, I’m getting a bit antsy for this year to just be…done. Not that I expect 2021 to be any better, but you can’t argue that 2020 has just been a shit year all around and we surely all want it in our rear-view mirror. Just two more months, my friends, and maybe if we all cross our fingers and hope our very hardest 2021 won’t be the epic clusterfuck that this year has been. If you believe in any Gods, for the love of them, start praying. lol

Plans & Goals 2020: Week 42 Review

Hurglghfshgowiowagohgf… *vague sounds of exhaustion*

Oh, my friends, my friends. I come to you today as a broken pile of aches and pains that was once a woman…

Okay, I’m being vastly over-dramatic. lol So, remember last week when I explained that I’d just come out West for a short job? Well I was expecting the kinds of work that I did last time, which mostly involved monitoring construction crews doing hot work or confined space work. But oh no, my loves…this is something much, much different. Without going into the highly-technical details of the job, what I and my coworkers are basically doing is…digging a hole. A bigass hole. Under a giant electrical tower. In winter. Through dirt moistened and made exceptionally heavy by groundwater.

Sounds fun, doesn’t it?

So, okay, I’m making it sound worse than it really is for dramatic effect, and I’m actually not bothered by it at all, but it is definitely 100% more physically demanding than the kind of work I’m used to. After the past six days of it I am more than a little sore and tired and anxious for my days off so that I can lay perfectly still for at least one full day. Four more days (including today) and I can do that! Cheer me on, my lovelies, I think I’m gonna make it!

On a plus side, I’m gonna be toned AF by the time the job is done. lol

Normally I would have a few more things to say here before getting into the goals, but not this week, and probably not until I get back home. Right now my entire life is sleep, go to work, come back and watch horror movie, pass out, so there’s not a whole lot extra to say. 😛

Goal #1: Be Healthier

What I can definitely say is that I’ve been an all-new kind of healthy this first week at work!

  • Eat better (and less) –  Okay, the first few days were admittedly bad. I was getting used to being back in a work camp, readjusting to the lifestyle, and extremely sore from those first couple of shifts moving ridiculous amounts of almost-mud. But after those first few sooky days I got back into a system. I’ve been eating more vegetables in the past few days than I have in the past few weeks, and have been avoiding the sweets like the plague unless I calculate a good calorie deficit by the end of the night. I even started doing intermittent fasting again yesterday, which I didn’t think would be possible out here but actually went just fine. Hopefully my efforts, combined with all the physical exertion I’m getting at work, will achieve some results by the time I go home.
    .
  • Drink more water – I think I’m doing okay, but I could honestly almost definitely be drinking more, considering all that physical exertion I just mentioned. It’s a little difficult to get the cups in when you’re working outdoors in the mud (I obviously don’t want my bottle down in the hole with me). I’ve been guzzling as much as I can in the mornings, though, and getting quite a bit in at the end of the day as well, so I do think that I’m still doing okay. Plus I’ve been ‘spiking’ my water with pre-workout or Ener-C to help keep me going. Two birds with one stone.
    .
  • Get more exercise – Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…did you read the first part of this post? YEAH. I’m getting exercise. No bloody doubt about that. Literally scooping, lifting, and throwing what feels like squishy lead for ten hours a day. If my arms, at least, aren’t toned AF by the time I go home I’ll be incredibly surprised (and, honestly, a little pissed).
    .
  • Lose 2 lbs per month – Now here, I have no idea. Being in a work camp, I currently have no access to a scale (unless maybe I go to the med center, which I doubt they would appreciate), so I have no idea what I weigh at the moment. I could check in town on my days off, but I’d be fully clothed so it wouldn’t be accurate. So, I suppose, for the time being I’ll just have to set this one aside, and I can weigh myself when I get home after the job. Fingers crossed for weight loss then, because I’ll be extraordinarily frustrated if I’m eating this well an doing all this exercise and getting nothing out of it.
    .

Goal #2: Be an Author

Despite the long work days, the physical exhaustion, and everything else that comes with a job out here, I do, in fact, continue to write as often as possible. On the bus, on my breaks, first thing in the morning before work (like right now), whenever a moment arises. THUS-

  • Write 500,000 words throughout the year – I still managed to murder my Pacemaker.press goal for the week. It wanted me to write 6704 words, and I blew past that with 9649 words. More than half of those were non-fiction, as I continue to post movie reviews to TraceysBasement.com, but hey, writing is writing. I do intend to step up my fiction game on my days off, however. I’ll be spending two full days in town without a whole lot to do, so my plan is to hunker down in the hotel room bed for at least one of those and just write as much as I possibly can. Wish me luck!
    .
  • Promote published books – Honestly, I don’t know why I bother… Yeah, I’ve been promoting the 99 cent sale on “Nowhere to Hide”, but it’s accomplishing positively fuck all. I’ve seen, like…two or three ebook purchases and a handful of Kindle Unlimited page reads since the month began, and it’s honestly very discouraging. I really wish I could afford proper promotional options, but even with this job I’m working right now it’s just not an expenditure that’s in the budget right now.
    .
  • Promote Patreon & exclusive content –  I did get something up for my lovely Patrons! Chapter 14 of Revenge Omens is now up in early-access, and I’m hard at work on Chapter 15, hoping to get it up at the end of this week. I’m nearing endgame on this one, so I’m eager to get it written and wrapped so I can move on to one of the other half-finished fics I’ve got going on.
I’ve also been picking at a few “Draw This In Your Style” projects from Instagram, which I share on the Patreon as well, though they aren’t exclusive items. I was, however, considering possibly trying to work up some actual exclusive drawings, either of scenes from my actual books, or from some of my more popular fanfics. We’ll see what happens and whether I have the time.
    .
  • Work on Author social media – Okay, now, here? I’m frustrated. I’m not sure what’s been going on with social media in general lately, but it seems like no matter what I do (or don’t do) there is either no growth, or tiny growth that later draws back so that the net result is no growth. I posted every day this week, including some art, some self-promo, and the announcements for new Revenge Omens chapters, and my reward was one new Twitter follower and one lost Instagram follower.
    .

Goal #3: Be a YouTuber

Obviously you know that I haven’t got a whole lot going on here personally, since I’m thousands of miles away from the Basement, but that doesn’t mean that absolutely nothing is going on.

  • Film/edit/upload – Jason is currently working on editing the two videos we managed to film right before I left, one of which will include a cute giveaway courtesy of the awesome people at Cryptozoic. Jason has a lot on his plate right now, what with losing his better half for a while (^_~) so he might be moving a wee bit slower than usual, but the videos should be ready fairly soon. I will, of course, share them here when they are available.
    .
  • Promote and Interact (Social Media) – Again we have the curse of the social media, or whatever-the-hell has been going on lately. Between myself and Jason we’ve been posting more on Instagram than we have in ages (because of the 31 Days of Horror and all that entails for us each October), and yet the big result is a single new follower. Meanwhile, my Twitter account inexplicably lost four followers last week. I simply have no more comments on this topic. The numbers are infuriating to watch.
    .
  • Expand website content – Well at least I can say that I’m still getting some progress pulled off here! I’ve been continuing with the daily movie reviews, and somehow managing to get them all up on time, so that’s great. Go me, am I right? Of course I’m right.
Go check out TraceysBasement.com for the reviews! Maybe you’ll find something that sounds interesting to check out for yourself!
    .

Goal #4: Be Fun!

You know, considering that I have only a couple of hours each day right now with which to do anything for myself…I’ve actually been pulling it off fairly well.

  • Read 50 books throughout the year – I finished Stephen King’s “Full Dark No Stars” last week, a book that is both rather large and rather excellent. It contains four short stories (although 1922 is long enough to have been published separately as its own book) that are very uncomfortable for a variety of reasons. I’ll leave it at that and say that if you enjoy King, you’ll probably enjoy this book.
I’ve moved on to the “Hocus Pocus Sequel”, which I think is probably the perfect October read, don’t you? I’m only about a tenth of the way in at the moment, but I expect to devour it pretty quickly.
    .
  • Play video games – This one has been a big nope, because there simply isn’t time if I want to squeeze in all the other important stuff while working ten-hour days. That said, I’ve been opening Pokemon Go randomly throughout the day, just to catch a few things and make sure I get a Pokestop spin in. There happens to be a gym in the camp across the parking lot from us, but I have a hard time keeping it for more than a few hours because there are actually several other people out here also playing. Unfortunately it seems as though there are equal numbers of red, blue, and yellow teammates playing, so we all just keep snagging the gym from each other for a couple of hours at a time and no one is getting any real amount of coins.
Okay, nerd, yeah, enough of that now.
    .
  • Watch shows/movies – Finally we have the watchables, and I will once again repeat: nightly movies and reviews on TraceysBasement.com. To see what I’ve watched this past week, simply go there, but the short version is “a horror movie each night”. It sucks not to be able to watch them with Jason and Adrianna, but at least I can participate with the family tradition from afar.

So that’s that for another week. By the time next week rolls around I’ll have had three days off to rest and recuperate, so hopefully I’ll have some decent stuff to talk about at that point. In the meantime, I hope this post was mostly lucid, as I typed quite a lot of it with my eyes closed (no, I’m not kidding). Cheers!

How was your week? Any accomplishments you want to share? Goals you worked hard on? Feel free to share in the comments!

Plans & Goals 2020: Week 41 Review

Phew! Okay, my friends, I’ve got a little bit to talk about this week.

The first, and main, thing is that I just finished a full day of flights and languishing in airports while waiting for flights, and am currently writing this post in a hotel room while my parents and I wait for checkout before we call a taxi to take us to our work camp. Yes, my friends, I’ve got work! Gasp! If you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that I haven’t worked since January because Covid caused all the jobs to be cancelled. This job that I’ve just picked up (which, funny enough, my parents also managed to grab) will only be a few week of work, but it will be enough to make some money for Christmas and allow for another employment insurance claim to get us through to the next one, so that is a huge weight off my shoulders. It’s a little frustrating that I’ll be missing Halloween, but luckily Jason’s cousin Justin was able to get time off in order to go up and give out candy at our house so Jason can take Adrianna trick-or-treating, so at least that’s all settled. In the meantime I’ll be getting my hours in before the weather gets too cold out here, and should be home a couple of weeks before Christmas at the latest. Not absolutely ideal, but it definitely reduces the stress levels by a significant amount.

In somewhat related news: I don’t mean to be antagonistic or anything, and I don’t want to start a flame-war, but I am personally a bit discomforted by how few people in Alberta seem to be wearing masks. I don’t think it’s mandatory in public places out here, but even so…it’s more than a little bit surprising to see no one wearing them. So far we’ve only seen one person in the hotel (a guest – none of the staff are wearing them), and only the workers at Tim Hortons, none of the customers. We’re popping into a few stores in a bit and I’m going to be interested to see what we see there.

I don’t believe in a higher power, my friends, but if you do, please feel free to pray for me to not get Covid out here, plsthnx.

I feel very strongly that there was something else I was going to talk about too, before I got to the goals, but now that I’m here I can’t seem to recall for the life of me what it was. So we’ll, uh…I guess we’ll just skip it for now. 😛

Goal #1: Be Healthier

*cough cough*

  • Eat better (and less) – I won’t lie. As soon as I found out that I was going to be coming out West I said “screw this” and ate whatever I wanted for the remainder of my time home. I mean, can you really blame me? When I’m out here my food options are restricted by what the camp staff provides, so I just wanted to enjoy myself while I could! Okay, maybe I didn’t have to eat quite so much, but shut up. 😛
    .
  • Drink more water – Water is still no big issue, although I went a little off kilter the last couple of days simply because I was travelling, and it’s easy to forget to hydrate when you’re either constantly moving or stuck in an airplane seat for hours at a time. For the most part, though, I’m doing perfectly fine, thank you very much!
    .
  • Get more exercise – *COUGH COUGH* I shall respond to this one by stating that I will be getting plenty of exercise by walking all over the work site for the next few weeks, sooooo….ahem. Yeah. Shut up again.
    .
  • Lose 2 lbs per month – I’ll be honest again: I haven’t weighed myself in a few weeks now. And I won’t again until I get home, because there’s no where to do so anywhere on camp or site. So cross your fingers for me that I manage to not absolutely destroy myself while I’m eating camp food.
    .

Goal #2: Be an Author

Regardless of what else is going on in my life, writing continues unimpeded, my friends. XD

  • Write 500,000 words throughout the year – For the second week in a row, I actually wrote more non-fiction than fiction. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I would like to even out the numbers a bit because that means I’m getting behind on my fiction, which I don’t like. That said, my numbers have still been good, especially considering all the stuff I had to rush to do before flying out, plus the actual travelling. Last week I wrote a total of 7940 words, as compared to the 5779 words that my Pacemaker.press account wanted me to write. I would have written more during my fly-day, but I was honestly so bloody tired that I couldn’t get any focus going. I’m all rested up now though, so I’ve got my fingers crossed for getting as much done during my non-work hours as possible.
    .
  • Promote published books – I’ve been promoting my 99 cent sale on “Nowhere to Hide”, but I honestly can’t say that I’ve been seeing much in the way of results from that promotion. Anyone have any ideas? Feel free to drop them my way, because apparently good old fashioned sales aren’t really doing it for me.
    .
  • Promote Patreon & exclusive content –  This past Monday was post-day for “Revenge Omens”, so my lovely Patrons got the most recent chapter of that. That was it as far as the Patreon, but I’m hoping to have at least one other story in the rotation soon. I just want to make sure that I have enough typed up ahead of time so that I’ll be able to upload on a regular schedule.
    .
  • Work on Author social media – Whoops! Uh…yeah, the Author social media went a bit sideways during the second half of the week. lol I was a little distracted trying to get things done before fly-day, and most of what really needed doing was channel related, so the author stuff got shunted aside. I hope to try to repair that on this coming week, but I’m not sure how well I’ll do considering there’s nothing out here for me to take pictures of. 😛
As far as numbers go, the Twitter lost 2 followers and the Instagram lost 5. I’m hoping that those were mainly bot removals, because I don’t usually see the Author Instagram go down.
    .

Goal #3: Be a YouTuber

YouTube is something that, obviously, suffers quite a lot while I’m away. Luckily we managed to get a little bit done before I left.

  • Film/edit/upload – We took a secondary trip to Spirit Halloween and Glow Halloween Superstore in order to find Adrianna’s Halloween costume (since the pickings around home are quite slim), and figured we might as well film while we were there. Subsequently, Jason edited and uploaded a second Halloween hunt vid, which is definitely nice. In addition to that, before I had to run away, we filmed a mail vid with packages from two of our geeky buddies, as well as a vid showing off the new Cryptkins Unleashed. I was particularly happy to get that one done, because we weren’t sure if the shipment was going to arrive before I flew. Luckily it showed up just in time, so we were able to get those two videos filmed at the last minute and Jason will get them edited and uploaded sometime in the near-ish future.
    .
  • Promote and Interact (Social Media) – YouTube social media has been going pretty well because we’ve been doing our traditional Halloween-related posts. Every day we share the movie we’re watching that night for “31 Days of Horror” as well as a pic of something from our horror collection. Thus, there’s been at least two good posts per day. That said, I can’t honestly say that we’re getting anything in the way of numbers to support our effort. The Twitter and Instagram each lost a follower. :\
    .
  • Expand website content – Remember up above when I said that for the second week in a row I’d written more non-fiction than fiction? Website content, baby! I’m still working on the “31 Days of Horror” posts, so there’s steady website goodness happening right now. Go me!
    .

Goal #4: Be Fun!

  • Read 50 books throughout the year – I mentioned last week that I was partway through Jaws; this week I can report that I completed it and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has a bit of a sudden ending, but other than that I thought it was great.
Since finishing that I’ve begun reading Stephen King’s “Full Dark No Stars”, and am currently a bit more than halfway through. The first story, “1922” was pretty awesome and has made me curious to check out the movie on Netflix. The second, “Big Driver” is the one I’m reading now and is pretty amazing too, if not incredibly uncomfortable for reasons that I won’t reveal because it would spoil it.
    .
  • Play video games – I don’t believe that I got any gaming in last week at all, except perhaps for trying (and failing) to help Adrianna get past the second night of “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location”. There was no time! That said, I did take my Vita out here with me, and based on the schedule we have for this one I expect to actually use it.
    .
  • Watch shows/movies – I mean, obviously. For further information regarding the movies we’ve been watching of late, simply check out TraceysBasement.com for all my mini-reviews! *plug plug*
As far as shows go, those have mostly been put on hold while we’re doing the “31 Days of Horror”, but we did finish up season two of “The Boys” the day the last episode was aired. It is such an amazing show, you guys. And Homelander may be the most fucked character…jeebus…but that’s part of what makes it great! If you like the idea of corrupt superheroes, you definitely have to check it out.

So that’s pretty much it for this week. I got a fair amount done, all things considered, and I am back to actually making some income, so that’s a pretty big deal. Here’s hoping all goes well on the first day tomorrow (*knock on wood*), but I’m sure it will be fine since I’ve been on this site before. Either way, wish me luck, and keep looking out for updates to my various passion projects! ❤

Plans & Goals 2020: Week 40 Review

Good morning and Happy Monday, everyone! (Yeah, yeah, I’m trying the cheery thing again…try to smile, ya cranky buggers!)

We’re into October, my friends! You know what that means? It’s HALLOWEEN! Yes, Halloween is a month, not just a day, and you can quote me on that.

October is a fun month for us. The weather is starting to get cooler, which isn’t very amusing at first, but soon we sink into the joy of couch blankets and hot drinks round-the-clock. We play Halloween specials regularly, and watch horror movies nightly, and just generally revel in sinking into the spooky season. It’s all quite enjoyable, and unfortunately it looks like I’m going to miss a bunch of it this year, but that’s born of necessity and is actually a good thing in the long run…just don’t mind me while I quietly sulk over here in the corner. 😛

Anyway, I don’t really have all that much non-goal-related stuff to talk about this week, so let’s go ahead and dive into it, shall we?

Goal #1: Be Healthier

I’m not going to bullshit you guys. The health stuff has not been my top priority recently. That’s not to say that I’ve been particularly unhealthy; just that I haven’t been putting much effort into it, for reasons that will become clear later in the month.

  • Eat better (and less) – Both the ‘better’ and the ‘less’ have taken a hit since last week, for sure. I wouldn’t say that I’m eating overly poorly, but when you start a tradition of watching horror movies every single night, that naturally turns into snacking. Sometimes the snacks aren’t too bad (grapes, toast, etc), and sometimes they’re downright awful (chips, cookies, etc). I’ve been doing my best to do well throughout the day in preparation for the night, but there’s only so much a poor, harried young woman can do, right? Right.
    .
  • Drink more water – Now water, that is not a problem at all. In fact, I think I’ve been drinking even more than usual because with the weather changing my throat is always dry lately. I’ve been guzzling coffee and tea as well, but there’s definitely been an excess of water making its way into my body these days. No issues there at all.
    .
  • Get more exercise – Pheeewww….exercise…yeah. So, I totally was doing zombie runs daily, which was good fun, but that has gone a bit by the wayside. It’s not that I don’t want to be doing them…just trust me when I say that, right at this particular moment, it’s much more important that I be getting other things done. I have a lot of stuff that needs doing very quickly, and, well, you’ll understand in a week or two.
    .
  • Lose 2 lbs per month – No comment here. Since most of my health plans recently fell apart I just stopped stepping on the scale. I don’t want to see it right now. That said, if current plans occur as they’re supposed to, there’s a good chance I’ll be losing some serious weight in the near future.
    .

Goal #2: Be an Author

Writing stuff took a bit of a back-burner this past week because we had a lot going on, including almost two entire days spent driving and shopping and other out-of-house activities, but all things considered I still feel like I got a decent amount of work done.

  • Write 500,000 words throughout the year – Last week was a weird one. For the first time in ages I actually wrote more non-fiction than fiction. It felt strange. lol That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I definitely don’t want to fall behind on the fiction because I’ve got so-bloody-many projects going on, I don’t want to get too far behind on them. Regardless of the particulars, I did manage to devour my Pacemaker.press goal for the week. It wanted me to write 4417 words, and I went well beyond with 7615 words. Not my best week by a long shot, but considering how the week went, I’d say it was a pretty damn decent effort.
    .
  • Promote published books – Oh hey, I actually did this one! 😛 I decided to put ‘Nowhere to Hide‘ on a 99 cent sale for the entirety of October, and have therefore been promoting the sale across my social media. It hasn’t had a huge effect as yet, but at least I can say that I’m doing something, right? Right.
    .
  • Promote Patreon & exclusive content –  I posted a few sketched I’d done recently last week, but those weren’t exclusive content or anything; I just shared them to my Patreon as public viewing for the sake of posting something. As far as actual exclusive content/early-access content, there was nothing new last week. However, that isn’t because I didn’t write anything; it’s just the timing of how I’ve been posting the new ‘Revenge Omens’ chapters. There will be a new chapter up there either today or tomorrow, depending on how busy I get today. ❤
    .
  • Work on Author social media – I dipped off a little near the end of the week, but on the whole I think the social media has been getting decent enough attention from me. I’ve been promoting the book sale on there, doing my best to take part in October’s #authorschallenge2020, and posting random bookish stuff, so that’s all well and good. As far as numbers go, the Twitter account remained exactly where it was, but the Instagram account gained 8 new followers.
    .

Goal #3: Be a YouTuber

Things have been a little slow since that 4-video-upload day, but that’s not to say that the gears haven’t been in motion.

  • Film/edit/upload – We haven’t filmed any more traditional-style videos recently, but we did get some more footage for our yearly Halloween-hunt vid(s). We ended up driving up to the city on Saturday to do a hardcore Halloween costume search, and since we were in a different store than previously we took a bunch of video and photos while we were there. I believe Jason intends to make it a second video, rather than just splicing all the footage together, since the two trips were a few weeks apart from each other. But hey, that means that once everything is edited you’ll have two vids to watch!
    .
  • Promote and Interact (Social Media) – I’ve been rather busy lately, but when I can manage a few minutes I’ve been doing my best to spend it interacting on the social media. The Instagram account has definitely been busy because we’ve been sharing Halloween and spooky-season stuff as much as possible. Twitter has been a little slower simply because there’s so much nonsense going on in the world at the moment that I cringe every time I scroll through my feed. But I have been spending time on there as well. As a result I finally managed to make it through a week with only positives: two new followers on each account. Not exactly mind-blowing, but getting positives all around definitely makes me a happy Tracey.
    .
  • Expand website content – OMFG YOU GUYS YOU AREN’T GOING TO BELIEVE THIS. Yes, it’s true, I’ve actually started posting to the bloody website again! GASP! I know! It’s an enormous shock!
I’ve got a rather massive pile of backed-up video posts to get to at some point, but for the time being I’m moving in a forward direction by posting short reviews of each of the horror movies we watch for our 31 Days of Horror. That will keep me busy throughout the rest of October, and hopefully by November I’ll have gotten used to posting and can start getting into that list of article ideas I’ve been sitting on.
    .

Goal #4: Be Fun!

Fun is subjective, right? Asking for a friend. 😛

  • Read 50 books throughout the year – It’s been a little bit slow-going because of the aforementioned days of driving (plus my parents visited one day last week…geez, the more I think of it, the more I’m amazed I got anything done last week), but I’ve got a small pile of books that I want to read for the spooky season, and I started with ‘Jaws’. I’m about two thirds of the way through right now, and I’m really enjoying it, although I do have to say that if Mrs Brody were a real person I would probably swing a sock full of nickels into her stupid face.
I expect I’ll be finishing that one soon, and then I might dive into ‘Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’, because that just seems like the kind of book that someone like me should have read by now.
    .
  • Play video games – Games have definitely been waysided recently by other, more important things that need doing. That said, I’ve picked up the Switch a few times to turn my brain off with either ‘Tetris 99’ or ‘Tetris Attacks’. They’re just such nice, quick little rounds that require little to no conscious effort from me! lol
    .
  • Watch shows/movies – Well this one has already been brought up a few times already, so I’m sure you know where it’s going. We’ve watched four horror movies in the past four days – plus we watched ‘Predator’ while my parents were up, just because – as well as several ‘Simpsons’ Halloween specials and a few other random specials. It’s that time of year, my friends! We definitely spend more time in front of the TV in October than any other time of year, and I refuse to apologize for that. XD

Here we are at the end again, and I have to say that it was a pretty decent week overall, considering how much of it I spent driving, entertaining, and doing things that needed doing in stead of things that I wanted to do. I think I’ll give myself a little pat on the back and hope that the progress continues. Wish me luck!

Plans & Goals 2020: Week 39 Review

It’s going to be a bit of a shorter post this week, my dears, as I’ve very little to report and am currently recovering from several days in a row of lost sleep.

The long-story-short bit is that we had a death in the family a few days past and, as these things tend to do, it threw life off-kilter for a bit. So I’m going to go through this one a little quicker than usual and move on to the many other things I’ve got going on at the moment. Cheers? Cheers.

Goal #1: Be Healthier

Short story: I’m a bloody wreck.

  • Eat better (and less) – If anything, I ate worse in this past week than I was doing before I started this goal. Junk food and fast food and copious amounts of alcohol, snacking and gorging and just all-over being a cow. There are no two ways around it. I spent most of last week eating like I was actively trying to gain weight.
    .
  • Drink more water – To be fair to myself, I did still drink a lot of water, but there was also all the alcohol, and hydration in general did not help at all with my appetite last week. I was just off in a whole lot of ways.
    .
  • Get more exercise – I had a couple of ‘morning run’ days at the beginning of the week, and there were a few Pokemon Go walks with the family as well, so at least that’s something. However, there was also a lot of sitting around doing not much of anything at all. So there’s that.
    .
  • Lose 2 lbs per month – I don’t even want to talk about it. I’m not even going to give you any numbers, because it’s just too frustrating. Maybe by this time next week I’ll have repaired some of the damage and I can get back to you.
    .

Goal #2: Be an Author

By some little bit of luck, I did actually get most of my writing done early in the week, so the report for this particular goal isn’t actually all that bad.

  • Write 500,000 words throughout the year – As I said, I happened to go hard earlier in the week, so I ended up nearly doubling my Pacemaker.press goal despite slacking off later in the week. Pacemaker wanted me to come up with 5932 words, and I managed to pull together 10,775 across three different projects. That brings me up to 80% completion for my half-a-mill goal, which is pretty awesome and definitely closer than I’ve ever gotten to writing so much in one year.
    .
  • Promote published books – Hmm…I’m thinking pretty hard, but I don’t believe that I did any kind of self-promo at all last week. Bad Tracey.
    .
  • Promote Patreon & exclusive content –  I did post to the Patreon at the end of the week, because it was time for another chapter of ‘Revenge Omens’, which has been getting lots of positive feedback. Yay for that! I also have a short nearly ready to go up; I just have to transcribe it because I happened to write this one by hand.
    .
  • Work on Author social media – I actually think I posted pretty consistently to all my social media last week. I shared some sketches, some writing updates, and some fun random stuff, all to the tune of gaining 3 followers on the Twitter account and 5 on the Instagram.
    .

Goal #3: Be a YouTuber

Things definitely ground to a halt here last week, but there was some progress at the beginning of the week.

  • Film/edit/upload – I mentioned in last week’s post that we were just in the process of finishing the editing on a slew of four videos that we’d done all at once. Shortly after making that post we did, in fact, finish all the editing and uploading and launching and whatnot, and so all four of those videos went live together. There has not been any continuing progress since then because of aforementioned family events, but I imagine you can rather understand that.
    .
  • Promote and Interact (Social Media) – Similarly to the author accounts, I feel like I was pretty productive with the social media last week, particularly with the several cute and fun pics I shared on Instagram. Unfortunately the results weren’t as positive as the author accounts. I only gained 1 follower on Instagram (although, at least it’s a positive number) and actually lost 3 on the Twitter account. That said, there were weird things going on with Twitter last week and apparently lots of people practically had their follower counts vanish overnight, so I feel rather lucky to have not been involved in whatever the hell that was.
    .
  • Expand website content – Do not engage, Tracey. Just do not engage.
    .

Goal #4: Be Fun!

There actually was quite a bit of fun to be had in the second half of the week, as Jason’s cousin visited for a few days to help distract us from things rather not dwelled upon.

(Everyone grieves in their own way. Don’t judge.)

  • Read 50 books throughout the year – I didn’t get a whole lot of reading done last week, but I did finish “Psycho Hose-Beast From Hell”, which went live today, so you should go check it out! You can read my full review right here; it was quite a fun romp with characters that I came to adore, and I’m definitely interested to see the continuation of the series.
    .
  • Play video games – There was actually a fair bit of random gaming last week, including a Smashdown tournament in ‘Smash Bros Ultimate’, a merciless slaying of my competitors in ‘Tetris Attack’, several random bouts of ‘Tetris 99’, and a ‘Summer Games 2’ tournament on the C64 Mini, which was quite hysterical because of how impossible it is to figure out the controls on those games. Lots of fun distractions to be had.
    .
  • Watch shows/movies – We didn’t watch a whole lot last week, aside from watching ‘Community’ at suppertime and ‘Futurama’ reruns in bed at night. We did watch the newest (at the time) episode of ‘The Boys’ on Amazon Prime Vid, which is fan-fucking-tastic, but I think that was more or less it. That said, there will definitely be a slew of movie-viewings coming very soon, because it’s nearly time for us to start our ’31 Days of Halloween’ event. ❤

So that’s that; less overly-detailed than usual, but I’m sure you’re probably not complaining since I can tend to ramble in these posts. Now, it’s time to get back to work catching up on all the many, many things I’ve gotten behind on. Wish me luck!
