Goals 2019: Week 36 in Review

You know how I’m always coming into these posts and going on about how I can’t believe another week has passed and OMG time is just slipping away from me?

That’s not how I feel this week. 😛

Perhaps due to the fact that I had two days off before this past week began and then had to deal with the fact that I wouldn’t have two more days off again until I’d worked twelve in a row, this past week just crawled by. Seriously crawled, you guys.

But that said, it was an otherwise very decent week! For one thing, I got on an exercise roll again (which was promptly ruined by that-time-of-the-month [oh grow up] bc I then spent three days in immense pain). For another I wrote like the goddamn wind, baby!

There were a few downs here and there, but yes, overall, this is going to be a good report. So let’s just bounce right into it!

Goal #1: Write half a million words.

*ahem* Pardon my enthusiasm. 😀

Seriously though, I totally killed it again this week. I once again surpassed my previous “high score” for the year by writing a whopping 24,452 words! If this were NaNoWriMo time I’d be halfway done in only a quarter of the time! And a quick reminder: I managed that while working consecutive 10-12 hour days! Imagine what I could (theoretically) do when I get home after this job is over! :O

I am so bloody happy with myself right now, you have no idea. Especially since I also kicked my Pacemaker.press goal for the week to the curb! It was asking me for a little less than 23,000 words, and I wasn’t certain I was going to get anywhere near that, but HELLS YEAH I did! And the best part? Because I did so well the past few weeks, Pacemaker is only asking me for about 11.5k for next week! I’m going to completely DESTROY that one!

  • Goal #1a: Write at least a quarter million fictional words. It’s hard to believe that for the first more-than-half-of the year I was regularly copping to the fact that next to none (and sometimes literally none) of my words were fictional. That’s taken such a dramatic turn it’s amazing I don’t have whiplash. Of the 24.5k words I wrote last week, 21,507 of them were fictional. And 100% of those were toward the Other World series. As I mentioned on my social media, I’ve literally been writing books 3, 4, and 5 simultaneously because IDEAS, and as a result I have literal notebooks packed with scenes that just have to be transferred and organized and (in some cases) fleshed out. My hope is that by the time I get Book 2 available for purchase, I’ll have 3 ready for my beta-readers and be well on my way to finishing the manuscripts for 4 and 5 as well. LET’S BLOODY DO THIS THING.

Goal #2: Read at least 50 books.

Oops, what happened here? Did someone drop the ball? Oh yes. Oh yes someone did. 😛

No, but seriously though, I did read an actual book this past week…it just happened to be my own. I read through the manuscript for Book 2 to see if there’s any major changes I want to make now that I’ve come up with all these new ideas for Books 3-5. And I definitely did notice a few things, so the exercise was worth it. Of course, it would be nice if I’d read, you know…something new (besides Good Omens fanfiction YES I AM STILL ADDICTED), but…baby steps? *cough*

Goal #3: Build my social media communities…EVERYWHERE!

It’s a bit funny, because I feel like I haven’t done a whole lot on social media lately, but I’ve actually been keeping track of it in my daily planner so that I know I’m not forgetting anything (yes, yes my brain IS that bad) and I actually posted to everything every day in the past week, so…okay then. I guess that’s all fine!

Last week’s numbers are as follows:

  • The YouTube channel gained 8 subscribers
  • The YouTube Twitter account went up 8 followers
  • The YouTube Instagram account lost 3 followers
  • The Snapchat account’s score went up 10 points
  • The Author Twitter account went up 3 followers
  • The Author Instagram account gained 6 followers

Oh screw you, YT Instagram. lol I really don’t know what it is about that one platform, but it just refuses to have normal growth. Little up, little down, round and round we go. What a pain in the butt. Maybe if I go to Spirit Halloween this weekend and post a ton of selfies of trying on costumes it’ll give the account a boost. What do you think? 😛

Goal #4: Play more (proper) video games.

What’s funny about this one is that I feel like lately on Twitter literally EVERYONE is posting about games they’re playing/buying/rediscovering/etc. My entire Feed is filled with gamers loving life, and I’m sitting over here like, “vid-e-yo gaaaames? I seem to recall something about those at one point in my past…”

Goal #5: Put more time, focus, and energy into the YouTube channel.

Present Me to Past Me: “Oh you dear sweet summer child.”

Okay, so I totally didn’t get all those website posts done that I claimed I was going to get done during last week’s post…but there were extenuating circumstances. And those are…um…dammit.

[Editor’s note: insert extenuating circumstances here.]

In all seriousness, my brain just wasn’t in the right place for that kind of thing last week. I did get an extra couple of posts up, but I’ve still got a good handful to go and Jason will be posting new videos before I know it, so yes, I’m going to actually put my foot up my own ass and try to get those done sometime early this week. Plus, in addition to the Game Developer Spotlight ideas I have for future posts, I’ve got a few list-style post ideas that I want to give a shot to (if I can ever drag myself away from the fictional stuff…ha ha ha, my how the tables have turned). So, look forward to that, and feel free to jab me with a pointy stick every now and then to make sure I’m actually doing it!

It seems almost hysterical to me that writing has become my go-to “LOOK AT HOW AWESOME I AM” section of these posts. I mean, obviously it’s a good thing, but I’m just…I dunno, genuinely surprised with myself. Maybe I have what it takes after all. Now if I could just learn some proper self-promotion skills, maybe pick up an agent somewhere, and I’d really be accomplishing something. XP

How was your week? Did you accomplish any goals? Make any new ones? Do anything else that made you feel awesome and accomplished? Feel free to share in the comments!
